The well trained sniper works because of fear. A platoon can be scared by a well placed shot and start firing at their own shadows but do zombies feel fear?? I doubt it so your well placed sniper may kill a few zombies but in the end he's gonna be over run with them unless he runs away...

Two people armed to the teeth in a well dug-in environment can't really be taken out. All you'd need is a choke-point and then a vantage point, chuck in some barbed-wire and/or wall/fence and you can't really be harmed, at least not for a while.
They post in threads about how people could come back and turn every zombie back into one of those awful things.
