The Big Picture: With Great Power

I am not a feminist. I do think that equality is important and I sure wish things like rape (all kinds) and slut shaming (all kinds) would go away, but I'm not expecting guys to stop loving breasts or ogling half-naked women, and I'm certainly not expecting that the video game industry is...

The Big Picture: With Great Power

I would say that everybody in the world needs to see this, especially nerds, but I worry that the very thing that has led us to have this reaction in the first place would prevent many of the people Bob is calling out here from actually adhering to the idea in any significant way. That said...

Pretty Serious and Imminent Problem (long)

My brother is going through a similar situation with my parents, but you look like you've got a helluva lot more options than he does, even if none of them are especially attractive. Staying with your mom looks like the least attractive of your options though. As a sister myself, I assume...

What should I do? (girl problem)

In my experience, getting other people involved in your romantic pursuits is a bad idea. It puts the go-between in a bad position, and also gives her full leave to alter the story as she sees fit, which she could very well do. The definition of rumor is irrelevant here - conceptually though...

How to deal with someone's "bad time of the month"?

My response came under the assumption that she IS having a hard time with her period. Some girls really, really do. They are aware of what they're doing and what they're saying and how much their words can hurt, but when I was young and first getting used to it, I said all kinds of things I...

Dammit, now I'm reading every Cracked article ever written, AGAIN. I have never visited a website better at sucking me right in.

Ooohhhhhhh, I see what you're saying. Yeah, that's tougher. Then yeah, this whole different seasons thing is probably the way to go. I bet you can trust your readers to put the pieces together.

What should I do? (girl problem)

This is tough because there's almost no way to deal with this without getting your heart broken a little. I take it you guys are in high school? Teenage girls change their minds a lot. A LOT a lot. Alot, even. I must have been head-over-heels in love with four or five different dudes at once...

    Writing Advice

If it's not always clear which location goes with what timeline, then I would do both. Maybe do it like the newspaper articles do it - just a little "Los Angeles, April 30, 2010" right before your first paragraph or something. It might be best to make it that unobtrusive.

How to deal with someone's "bad time of the month"?

I mean this with all the love in the world. Step one is STFU. Back off, give her space, don't criticize, and don't touch her unless she wants you to. You probably won't be able to tell if she wants you to, though. Accept that, during this time of the month, you are probably going to be...

    Would you use this machine?

Yeah, I think no. I don't think that a perfect life would be boring, but that whole "not knowing where you're going oh and btw it's permanent lol" aspect is pretty disconcerting. I'd rather have a choice to totally screw up royally. But I deeply fear change, so.

    Writing Advice

Um. Unless you were on a deadline, you take as long as you need to finish a story. I wouldn't waste another second worrying about how long it took you to write it. I would say this might be a good opportunity to experiment with alternating between first and third person, but since the story...
