Do you typically buy games when they come out?

By the way, I'm not a cheapskate. I just don't feel comfortable in investing my money in something that will drop in value really fast. Especially, if I'm likely not going to be playing it often after a month or two.

Reviewing all James Bond 007 movies (140 characters or less)

Dr. No - 9/10 Strong introduction. Terrifying villain. Minimalist direction accenturates. Connery's perfect in the role, sexy, interesting, dangerous. From Russia With Love - 7/10 Found the first 40 minutes to be dreadfully slow, but it's a good serious story with a wonderful third act...

    The Star Fox series

That's Star Fox Adventures you're referring to. It was originally going to be a new series to begin with, but Nintendo decided to make it a Star Fox game.

    (2016 Discussion) Gears of War

PC games caught up fast though. I'm by no means calling Gears of War a Crysis of its time, but it was possibly the best looking game of all time until 2007.

    (2016 Discussion) Gears of War

I like the sprinting. It gives you much needed speed but comes at the penalty of making you vulnerable, so you have to choose when to use it wisely.

    The Star Fox series

For an intellectual property, so popular with gamers, it managed to have very few titles and with mixed results. I think the majority of the hype is nostalgia. Thankfully, Star Fox Zero is coming out and it looks like a great game in its own right, but I'll review the series so far. Star...

    (2016 Discussion) Gears of War

Some may dismiss this game as a military shooter, but this title was a landmark action title because it brought a lot of new things to the table. 1) Put third-person shooters back on the map. 2) Controls are excellent. They give the player both a sense of heft and mobility. 3) Emphasized...

    (2016 Discussion) Mass Effect 2

Yes, it's the one I recommend people who don't have time for all 3.

    (2016 Discussion) Mass Effect 2

The only thing I disliked about Mass Effect 2 was that 90% of the areas were indoors. Granted, this allowed for more focus to be had for the graphics. There was one level (a Jacob mission, I think) that was outdoors and it was a beautiful area and my reaction was something like "OH YESS THE...

Open world is this generation's equivalent to last gen's military shooter obsession

Open world can definitely be boring. Eventually you get tired of screwing around, traveling from marker to marker and doing fetch quests, and you get bored.

Open world is this generation's equivalent to last gen's military shooter obsession

Dedicated overworld games that do it right are fine ^ I'm talking about "Let's just go open world because it's trendy". MGS5 for example. Yes, the missions opened up but the overworld was terrible and traversing through it was so repetitive.

Open world is this generation's equivalent to last gen's military shooter obsession

I think each time new console technology comes out, more things can be done. 80's and early 90's had platformers because it was the best possible genre that could come out of 2D gaming. Late 90's on, with the advent of 3D, shooters got much better and platformers got much trickier to make...

Fun until the Mako gets stuck in a wall and you have to repeat an hour long segment again.

    (2016 Discussion) Mass Effect 2

While the first Mass Effect was promising though unpolished and the 3rd Mass Effect game found no meaningful ways to build on the franchise, Mass Effect 2 was the stellar middle ground. One can make criticism of its binary moral system, but the depth of the story and characters reaches far...

(2016 Discussion) Grand Theft Auto V

This is where the narrative and gameplay can be at odds. GTA was originally supposed to be about causing chaos. Then the narratives came around. And the character you play as in between missions behaves a lot different than the character you play during the missions.
