I always name my characters after characters in the Shakespearian play Othello, and when given dialogue choices I try to answer as I think the character would have.

I actually found the games quite boring but still played till the 3rd gen. I think the reason it was so popular is kids really loved the concept of battling with awesome creatures you caught and trained yourself rather than the storyline.
