Blizzard: Overwatch development is slowed by fighting toxic players

It seems like a fair call. If the game is to continue to succeed, retaining an enjoyable gaming environment is important. New features are always nice, but if the game ceases to be fun because of how people act within it, then people are just going to walk away. It doesn't take much for an...

Edge's Top 100 Games of All Time...

At least I've played about half of them. However, any top 100 that doesn't include Paradroid won't cut it for me. :)

    Games released in your birthyear?

This is awkward. 1969, so Lunar Lander and Space Travel stand out. Not that there was a lot of competition that year.

What's up with Nintendo under-supplying their products?

I don't know the official reasoning that Nintendo (and the other companies) use, but to make a stab at why I'd see it as a reasonable business decision. Clearly the one that everyone raises is that it creates the impression of great demand if you sell out, making the product look more desirable...

    Reverse zombie apocalypse games?

Something like that. They spent a lot of time on the AI of the NPC people, so the responses to the infected were believeable, but they didn't spend as much time on the gameplay so I don't know where it would have ended up. That particular course is one where they need to come up with a concept...

    Reverse zombie apocalypse games?

It isn't of much use to you, but a couple of years back some of my game development students built a game where you played the zombie virus. It ran a simulator of a small area, and tracked the virus as it spread. Wit power ups you could increase different characteristics of the virus the improve...

A reflection; is Overwatch a good GAME?

What you are describing might be a good solo game, but would be a poor team game. In a team game you should win by teamwork, not by being carried by an individual player. A good player in a bad team should lose, while a less skilled player in a good team should have a decent chance to win.

    To Infinity...and Beyond!

The risk was that her first words would be "die rebel scum", which probably would have resulted in some odd looks when shopping. :)

    To Infinity...and Beyond!

I loved Elite. A friend had it on the C64 and I played it occasionally. Later I picked up the MS-DOS port and played it for months. It was hard - docking was impossible at first, but made a real sense of accomplishment when you succeeded, and the scale of the game seemed incredible for the C64...

Your opinion: How much has female characters in games changed (or not changed) in the past 2 years?

Not claiming they were infantry - just that they were front line. The first three US marine infantry women joined their battalion in January. However, my main issue was with your claim that women do not serve in Western defense forces, and that they do not serve on the front line. These...

Your opinion: How much has female characters in games changed (or not changed) in the past 2 years?

Just to clarify this, women serve in front line roles in a number of Western countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Norway and the US. Using the US as an example, a number of significant medals have been given to women for their efforts in combat, including the Silver Star to...

Your opinion: How much has female characters in games changed (or not changed) in the past 2 years?

The thing is, overly sexualised character designs are not the lowest common denominator. They may (arguably) have been in the past, but gaming is much more diverse, with a much wider potential audience, than it has been in the previous decades. Designing sexualised characters has a place, and...

Lady Bits Kickstarter by Liana Kerzner

I'm not sure where this myth comes from, or why it is so often uncritically repeated, but this is incorrect. Including stretch goals, she promised 12 videos of 10-20 minutes in length, which averages out to three hours of video. She delivered 16 main videos and five bonus ones, with an overall...

Controversial Tropes vs. Women in Video Games Series Comes to an End

I don't think I'll listen and believe. Instead, I'll take the comments by the San Francisco Police Department, who not only acknowledged that reports had been made, but that they had passed them on to the FBI. Perhaps a quick check of Google would help before making claims like this. Again...
