Winter Voices, its not a game for everyone and isn't well known for a reason, but i really enjoyed it.

As far as publishers go, 2K has done pretty well lately, BioShock(s) Borderlands XCOM CivV. Pretty much any time a developer talks about 2K it's under good light and they seem to be ok with letting the devs take risks, even if they don't pan out for the best in the end.
