Scoring is ridiculous because of the reasons in the OP, 8 should still be considered amazing, not just average, but in reality just looking at a score won't make you know if it's a good game for you, the written segments of a review are the important part as the reviewer justifies his reasoning...

From a person that doesn't enjoy COD I have so far really enjoyed Battlefield 3, while the story is similar you feel less like a secret agent who is also Rambo and more like a soldier... Albeit a very very good soldier.

Playing Jedi Academy, opening the console and spawning a ton of Luke Skywalkers before changing my allegiance to the Dark Side... That experiment went really well...

Beating Halo Reach on Legendary alone... Just constantly picking it up and trying again and again until I managed to pull it off :)
