What was the first video game you ever played?

The first console my family ever owned was a Sega Master System, which came with Hang-On and Safari Hunt built in. Also had Thunder Blade at the same time. So one of those three. That was Christmas 1987. I've been a gamer ever since.

    Gaming survey

There you go man, hope it helps. Just a heads up, questions 18 and 19 are identical -- I don't know if you can change the survey now that people have started submitting responses, but I just thought I'd let you know. Good luck with the project.

"Did I just do that?" Moments

Recently I was playing Civ V as the Hunnian Empire. I started a war with China and razed Shanghai to the ground. Years (turns) later, I negotiated a peace treaty with China that involved them handing over the newly built Shanghai to me. Civilization V: I come for the strategy, I stay for the...

Should I get Dead Island Riptide or Metro Last Light?

Pulitzer refers to the Pulitzer Prize, an award handed out for excellence in writing-type things (journalism, literature, musical composition, etc.) Pulitzer Laureate is a play on words derived from the term "Poet Laureate", which is a government-appointed poet who's job it is to document...

Should I get Dead Island Riptide or Metro Last Light?

I would say go with Metro Last Light, if for no other reason than Deep Silver's terrible track record for correcting flaws in their own product. Dead Island was a game with a ton of promise that was quashed in large part by some pretty outrageous bugs, many of which weren't addressed after four...

Original Tomb Raider Series Awaits You on Steam

I am surprised by the price point Steam went for on this, because normally if Steam and GOG offer the same title, the prices are comparable.

Original Tomb Raider Series Awaits You on Steam

Not only is it cheaper on GOG.com, but there's less risk of compatibility issues with current-era PCs. I love Steam, but I've had problems in the past running older software I bought from them. By contrast, GOG doesn't release a classic title until they know for certain it runs on...

    Dishonored / Assasin's Creed

Has anyone said that? I certainly didn't. Please actually read what I post before you respond to it. I think there might be a stumbling block in terms of context here. Games like Thief, the pure stealth games, encourage the player to get in and out of a contained environment (mansion, mine...

    Dishonored / Assasin's Creed

    - Merging with the crowds in the streets to avoid guards - hiding in haystacks - sneaking up behind people for an assassination attempt - positioning dead bodies to draw attention away from where you're trying to get to This is just what I thought up in the first minute after reading that...

    Dishonored / Assasin's Creed

It definitely isn't JUST a stealth game, but certainly incorporates stealth game play elements.

    Dishonored / Assasin's Creed

After seeing that Dishonored advert pop up every time I watch a video here for the past week, I've been inspired to dust off some of the old Assassin's Creed games. The fact that they're 75% off on Steam right now might also be a contributing factor... Anyone else going through some Ass Creed...

I am a harsher critic for games that I like than the ones that I do not.

I find that I can praise or criticize games in equal weight, whether I like them or hate them. It's all about keeping an objective perspective, and a really good thought exercise, actually: write a page of criticisms about a game you really like; then write a page of things that a really bad...

Crytek UK: Create a TimeSplitters HD Collection (petition)

I thoroughly enjoyed Timesplitters, but can you throw an adendum in there for a release on the PC? I can't FPS with a gamepad to save my life.

    Your Favorite Indie Games

Other people have already mentioned most of what I've really enjoyed in the indie scene - Bastion, Super Meat Boy, Orcs Must Die, and others - but I'll also put in a word for Retro City Rampage, which is worth a play through for its humor alone.
