The thought laden inside Evolutionary Psychology is one of the chief causes of inequality.

LilithSlave, have you read Cordelia Fine's book Delusions if Gender? It's an attempt to debunk some of the errant science surrounding sex-differences. I've only skimmed it myself, but there seems to be a lot of good material, most of it pertaining to what she calls 'gender priming' in...

    Words that stir the blood

'In this noon of thought, the rebel thus disclaims divinity in order to share in the struggles and destiny of all men." I'd write more, but I don't have a copy of the book handy, and when I searched for the quotation on Google the only result I got was from my own blog.

    Peaceful Protest

For anyone interested in a first-hand, non-partisan view, my friend Nick has blogged about his experience in the 'riots'. It's only one perspective, of course, but I think it's a fair and sober assessment compared to much of the media coverage...

Expert Warns of Possible Catastrophic Effects of California Videogame Law

Is that really a political correctness issue? By that standard, Saudi Arabia must be one of the most politically correct countries in the world. :)

Expert Warns of Possible Catastrophic Effects of California Videogame Law

A friend of mine used to work for HMV here in the UK, and their policy is to try and scare the hell out of all their new employees regarding selling age-restricted products to minors. (I think that the employees are held responsible on an individual basis under law.) Doesn't seem to make any...

What is your opinion on the Death Penalty and why?

I don't know much of the literature on this subject, but if you're interested, Reflections on Hanging by Arthur Koestler is worth reading. It specifically addresses the death penalty in the UK, but it still makes a good general case against the practice.

What game has the best soundtrack?

Thief II has an absolutely stunning ambient soundtrack by a chap called Eric Brosius. The "Trail of Blood" level is particularly good; one of the first times I was ever actually impressed by videogame music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr7sW6vbfM4

    Worst BDay. EVER!

My birthday was yesterday. I spent four hours of it waiting to get tested for HIV. Then I got lost on the subway. (It wasn't so terrible, actually.) Anyway, sorry to hear about the girlfriend, but if she has different ideas about your relationship then they were going to come out sooner or...

Poll: Games based on literature? or Literature you want to turn into a game?

And why has no one attempted to make a game based on American Psycho? Instant cult status.

Poll: Games based on literature? or Literature you want to turn into a game?

I think The Trial by Franz Kafka would make an excellent survival horror. The monsters would be minor bureaucrats, and rather than disemboweling you, they just want to talk about your case at mind-numbing length. (And in the end, you always die.)

Ilya Ilych Oblomov in ?Mid-Morning of the Living Dead? In Ilya Ilych Oblomov in ?Mid-Morning of the Living Dead? the player takes control of the title character, a lackadaisical 19th-century Russian nobleman, and guides him through a hellish day in St. Petersburg. The dead have returned to...

Most Violent Moments in a Book!

Besides 'American Psycho', which has racked up a few well-deserved mentions already, 'The Wind-up Bird Chronicle' by Haruki Murakami has a memorable sequence in which a man is skinned alive, and 'The Story of the Eye' by Georges Bataille features the rape-murder of a priest. Oh, and I nearly...

"Never pass up an opportunity to have sex or appear on television." Gore Vidal Actually, that one's pretty redundant these days.
