I was a web designer a while ago for about 3 years, and so I know what it's like to tinker with the HTML and CSS to try to get the page looking exactly what you want it to look like in all the major browsers. I can only imagine this to be the same, only many orders of magnitude more complex...

Torchlight isn't a bad game, but Titan Quest is a better Diablo clone, especially with the Lilith and Masteries mods.

Ok jesuschrist, six whole pages and I'm not reading them all so apologies if this has been said already. People put things down because they think they're shit. People perhaps put WoW down because the WoW community do really annoying things like spell the word "the" as "teh" and suchlike...

Apart from my WoW phase a couple of years ago, I also have never chosen to do multiplayer in games. And after WoW I probably never will... If I want to interact with people I use my phone and go outside. I view gaming a bit like reading or that other thing I do: a solitary activity.

Go for it then, and best of luck to you. I know I certainly couldn't design a game as solid and as entertaining as Gears or Halo, but if I could, would I be proud of myself? Hell yeah! Games like Mirror's Edge, Psychonaughts etc may be more to our tastes than these mainstream games but...

But all that said, whether or not Mirror's Edge will be any good, you can't get away from the fact that Gears of War is a lot of fun. And very successful - the guy has earned his arrogance.
