It really depends. I still very much enjoy old JRPGs as well as most of my Nes and SNES library.
On the PC, I played Morrowind recently (for the first time) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Deus Ex is still an amazing game. I am also a huge fan of Baldur's gate and other infinity engine RPG...
If you were competitive in G&G, I am sure you can still win plenty of games now (even without getting new cards).
Expansions since G&G did not add that many great cards and the meta has not change all that much (beside patron warrior). Aggressive decks still trump controls (unfortunately)...
What a messed up world we live in where it can be up for debate whether what you said is rude. Of course it is!!!!!
How hard is it to put yourself in the person on the receiving end of your phrase? How could you not understand that there is a very good chance you are hurting someone's...
To me, FF lost its soul a long time ago. Not sure Square has what it takes to bring the magic back.
The only concrete positive is the rebirth of FF14 (apparently; not played it). The rest is mostly announcements. It is therefore too early to tell.
From a very personal stand point, they...
I love Amalur for its gameplay and sheer size, but I do not think it would have ever achieved Skyrim-level of popularity. I also do not think it is a gamer's game (way too easy). Again, I love this game and I think it is underrated. Still, it has a number of problems/design choices:
1) Too...
I agree that Bethesda's recent track record for fleshing out more alien cultures is not as good as it used to be, but then I look at the world-building made in Morrowind and I yearn for something that foreign and engrossing. I do not know if Bethesda still has the talent to pull off this type of...
I have to go with G4
Many of G5 and (some of) G6's early 3D visuals (not graphics!) and game mechanics have aged badly.
By comparison, while pixelated, Super Mario World and Link to the Past remain visually appealing to me and are still considered pinnacles of game mechanics in their...
Nothing I would qualify as "strong emotional attachment", but here are some I like(d) a lot:
- Zora Fair-Child from the Interesting NPCs mod for Skyrim (love the voice; funny and charming).
- Locke and Celes in FF6
- Frog in Chrono Trigger
In Dragon Age:
- Alistair
- Morrigan
In...
I am not entirely sure what you are looking for in terms of games. At first, I thought it was third-person action close to WOW, but then you said strategy games also count.
I know this is (at least) one step removed from a strategy game, but maybe Hearthstone could fill your...
This is just the latest case illustrating that Square Enix's designs are incredibly off-putting for western audiences. Not because they are too sexy, but because they look atrocious/stupid/uncool to many of us.
It is plainly obvious that their character's designs try to appeal to Japanese...
It is not a franchise, but I would really like to play a rebooted Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura.
I am not a sucker for great graphics (I often replay Baldur's Gate or early FF games), but even at the time, this game looked pretty bad. And I cannot say that it has aged very well...
