Do strategy games count? Warlords Battlecry II and III allow you to play as the Demon race, with all unique demon units and buildings and such.
WBCII also happens to be my favourite strategy game of all time, so I highly recommend it.
Yes, very much so!
I'm bad at strategy games, but I do still enjoy them. I recall trying a
Warlords game of some description in the past, but I don't think I played enough to really gather an opinion on it. If you've played any of the
Warcraft games, how would you say they compare? Re: controls, UI, difficulty, etc., because
Warcraft is one of the few RTS metrics I have to compare by, unfortunately.
Well, the Warlords series is kinda split,
Warlords is turn-based, while
Warlords Battlecry is real-time. Just a clarification so it doesn't confuse you.
I've only played a little bit of Warcraft III at a mates place when I was much younger, but there are quite a few similarities.
First, the WBC series was the first to introduce a 'hero' unit, which was added in Warcraft III, but I found it was done to perfection in WBC II. Also, unlike Warcraft, the WBC series has many more races, with 9 in the first, 12 in the second, and 15 in the third. All races completely unique save oen or two units/buildings.
In terms of gameplay, from memory it was pretty similiar. You've got swordfighting and spells and the like. The gathering of resources is a bit different I think, but I imagine if you've played Warcraft you should be able to pick up WBC pretty easily. It's just a case of learning what units do, what research developments mean and that sorta stuff.
If you're interested, I'd definitely say to look into the second Battlecry game. There's no story unlike the other two, but it's not needed. All the races are balanced exceptionally (and fun to play, learn their strengths/weaknesses etc.), the AI is intelligent, there's a boatload of different and fun victory conditions, the hero system is pretty in-depth, plus the Demon race that you're after is one of my favourites. It's available on GOG.com.
