Interesting piece. Personally I quite liked Navi as a design element and as an optional hint system, what always bothered me was when she intruded with the gameplay. You ought to have been given the option early on to determine how frequently she offers hints, and to turn any gameplay disrupting...
It's not as bad as it sounds really, plus it's per-household rather than per-person.
In my opinion it's a worthwhile sacrifice. The BBC is ad-free and compared to a most British TV feels like a lot better quality. Plus the tabloid newspapers (and any organisation owned by Rupert Murdoch) hate...
Okay, here goes...
On Topic:
I've voted for the excited option. Was a big Buffy, Angel and Firefly fan back in the day, in fact Buffy was pretty much the dominant interest through my teens. Quite liked Dollhouse (haven't seen beyond the first couple of episodes of season two yet and will...
Not sure if Manga region lock or not. Just checked my Evangelion 1.11 blu-ray and it says absolutely nothing on the topic. If anybody wants to ask though @MangaUK on twitter is usually excellent when it comes to answering these kinds of questions.
As practically everybody has said it's The Sun, so no need to take this seriously.
They have been right before -- but that's just law of averages, keep predicting things and sooner or later one of the things you predict will happen to be true.
Back when the first series was in production there...
Not quite. Japanese does have several levels of politeness, with the rules of usage depending on social standing. However it's usually more a case of using longer versions of the same word to make them more polite, or dropping gramatical elements from casual spoken sentences if they're not...
I'd always been kind of suspicious that his departure after one year was part of the plan all along. The first series seemed to be structured in order to drip feed the core elements of the franchise to a new generation rather than overloading them with Doctor Who lore. Regeneration and the shift...
Japanese in Manga Land is quite good. The content was originally published in some magazine so most of it is broken down into reasonably short chapters. As far as I know there are three books in the series and a spin-off Kanji in Manga Land for, well, kanji. New vocab is presented in kana/kanji...
Yeah, me too. I've heard plenty of "normal" Japanese through various media, just happened to be on my mind that in most of the language CDs I've listened to feature voices that seem completely disinterested.
There seem to be a few books springing up lately teaching Japanese through manga...
I could too, and if you don't believe it's possible to not sound angry or excited just check out some of the language CDs! It's pretty much possible to speak Japanese and give the impression you've never encountered a single emotion ever.
Apart from a few exceptions (Robotech, etc) Manga Entertainment generally go for dual-audio in their releases. There's no reason why it wouldn't feature the Japanese track.
I'm pretty much a sub-only man myself. Regardless of the voices I'm quite fond of the context of the Japanese versions...
Quite a few good ideas already but...
-Pick a random word and just put it on the end of every sentence you speak.
-Find an everyday custom from another culture and start using it - for instance bowing as you greet somebody OR on the other end of the greeting spectrum try to hug them or kiss...
One of the things that seems off to me about FF13 is that the European version contains the English dub, and subtitles for the other European languages. It makes me curious about whether the subtitles are translations from the English audio or the Japanese audio, seems wrong to me if it's the...
I'm with Amethyust Wind on just prefering original language dialogue.
This is good news as far as the localisations go, but it would still be better if all games were available with an option to use their original audio - even if it's only as DLC.
