Professor Layton Movie to See English Release

The theatrical release of Nintendo's charming puzzle game Professor Layton will be coming to Western audiences.

British distributor Manga Entertainment has announced it will release Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, which is slated for a direct-to-DVD and Blu-ray release this September. Manga Entertainment has also stated the movie's name may change for the English release.

Professor Layton was originally written by Level5 President Akihiro Hino, who drafted an entirely new story for the theatrical release. While the original Japanese voice cast has remained unchanged, there is no word on the English voice cast, though it too will likely remain much the same.

Cool stuff, but I certainly hope they keep the voice cast of the video games in it. There shouldn't be any reason for them not to, but let's hope for some confirmation news nonetheless.

Second that, that was a fun and refreshing game, I hope they get that essence over the animation.
And a bit of Clara is always great... or whatever her name was (lapse of memory).

A gentleman always makes an animation fun.

And you stole my words, except for "I hope the subbed version is in this, so I can compare the two." Voices don't really faze me, but I'd like to see both versions.

If the English voices are the same as the ones they use for the games, you should have nothing to worry about.

Who says I'm worrying? I want to hear both voice tracks. That's what I usually do with stuff like this, and that intention isn't likely to change.

Apart from a few exceptions (Robotech, etc) Manga Entertainment generally go for dual-audio in their releases. There's no reason why it wouldn't feature the Japanese track.

I'm pretty much a sub-only man myself. Regardless of the voices I'm quite fond of the context of the Japanese versions, even the better dubs feel rather false to me.

Good news anyway, it's great to see the movie making its way to the west so quickly.

A Prof. Layton movie, eh?
"Let's check behind this door professor."
"Okay, but let's do a puzzle first."
Then GameFaqs appears on the movie screen so that they don't lose any points.

Kickawesome! I can't wait to see it, the cutscenes in the games always had a Miyazaki-esque quality to them, lets hope it translates onto the screen.

It will probably work because the whole game works as interactive storytelling, but with fun puzzles to block your way from seeing the whole story

It?s like getting a book and every other page you have to scratch off a removable latex thing in order to continue reading the book.

The movie will be the book but without the latex covering the words.

Except for the hope that Layton will sword fight in this one, too. That scene was BADASS.

Nice! The animation in the (only two) games we have here is top-notch. It only makes sense to follow with a feature release.
