The question is in the title. If you had to make a choice to play 1 game for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Mine would be:

this is a difficult one for alot of people but very easy for others, for me it would be Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst but I know I can never relive those days again sadly.

Neverwinter Nights or Minecraft. Ya know, something that keeps getting updated in some fashion.

XCOM: Enemy Within (Or probably XCOM 2 assuming it's awesome...I wouldn't know...stupid PC...)
It is very very very very very very VERY rare that I play ANY game more than once. My most favorite games of all time are still games that I only play once and am done with. For whatever reason, once I have played a game, I move on to the next one and I don't ever go back once I've put a game down.

I played through XCOM five times.

The fact that it has quasi-random maps and fights keep it fresh while the play itself is top notch. As someone who loves tactical games AND games that present a challenge (and punish you for your mistakes), I'm pretty sure XCOM was designed with me in mind. Easily one of my favorite games ever and one of the very few that I've ever replayed.

Tough one. I'd say Mount and Blade: Warband. With the sheer amount of mods and whatnot, I'm sure you could get plenty of fun and time out of it.

Skyrim

It isn't my favorite game, but it will probably have the longest staying power. The content Bethesda put in alone can last for 150-200+ hours. Then considering all the mods that enhance and add to the experience, and it can last for many, many years.

Hm, oh, wow, that's a tough one.
Just because I'm riding the high right now, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.
I haven't finished it yet (I should make one-a dem hype threads by now) but from what I've played, hot damn, this game is amazing.
I'd probably regret it in the long run, it being a straightforward, not terribly long game but like I said, riding the hype right now.

Hmmm... probably some sort of strategy game. Oh, I know:

Dwarf Fortress

Plenty of room for creativity without sacrificing depth, large supportive and active community, ongoing development that's unlikely to end any time soon, plus multiple game modes and options to support plentiful gameplay diversity. The perfect desert island game.

Neverwinter Nights though, as amazing a game as it is, isn't getting updated anymore, even with community content, isn't it? It's getting pretty old and though I haven't checked its community activity in a long while, I'm assuming that's the state of it.

As for me, Unreal Tournament 4. Now, is it finished? Nope.

But will it be? Yep. Will it be awesome? If they keep heading in the direction they're going, abso-freaking-lutely. Will it have mods out the ASS? Yep. Will those mods be insanely varied and powerful and wonderful, some of them even turning into whole games a la Red Orchestra and Killing Floor due to the UE4 being so sleek and powerful? You're damn right. Also helps that the UE4 is constantly getting updated as well. And furthermore, UE4 and UT4 are completely free.

So yeah, UT4, by the sheer power and versatility and openness of UE4 wins hands down.

There's never been a game that's held my attention for very long. Even incredibly long games such as Xenoblade Chronicles X, which I love to death despite its flaws, I only played for about 50 hours before putting it down and never picking it back up. So, honestly, I can't really say for certain.

No one game is going to hold my attention long, let alone a lifetime.

I'd pick something new that I haven't played yet, maybe the new Mirror's Edge or Total War, play it a few times then find a new hobby.

Final Fantasy XII on the PS2.

It is flipping massive, has a pretty good story (it may be repetitive after a while but still fun to play through again after a break), and the tactical customisations mean you can go for different play-styles each time.

The Binding of Isaac Rebirth is probably the most replayable game I have. And it happens to be one of my favourite games. It was released almost five years ago (the original version that is) and I've been playing it regularly since then.

Downwell.

Assuming the community never moves on, GTA: Online potentially.

but Downwell is a simple enough game thats hard to master that can kill boredom in short bursts.

Between:

Tetris - just a forever game on gameplay alone.
Terraria or Minecraft - something you could constantly evolve.
