Now, I know that that title looks like one of those hypothetical situation topics, but it isn't; this is a genuine dilemma facing me right at this very moment.

So, I'm back from university for Christmas and have been reunited with my darling PS3, my central hub of video gaming (I'm a Mac user so PC gaming is out of the question for a lot of games). Now, I have ONE MONTH (pretty much exactly) back home, and I'm going out tomorrow to get ONE GAME to enjoy during that time. The problem is: which game?

Now, I originally thought that the obvious choice would be Skyrim, what with it being absolutely hyped to bits by fellow games. HOWEVAR, I have to also bear in mind I only have a month to play the game, and from what I've heard of Skyrim, that won't nearly be enough.

Still, Skyrim is an incredibly inciting option and is still very much on the table; BUT, this is 2011, one of the best years in gaming history, hands down. SO!:

I need suggestions for a new game with these restrictions:

1) Must be available on the PS3 (not necessarily exclusives though)
2) Must be available NOW (out in a few days is NOT GOOD ENOUGH)
3) Must be able to be enjoyed thoroughly for 1 month. Not "at least", not "more than", EXACTLY 1 month of solid entertainment would be the best results.

So... gamers... any suggestions?

Is it just me or does nobody have usernames any more?
Anyway, it would help if you gave us a little more information, but if you like multiplayer, maybe Uncharted 3? Seems like it'd have good lasting appeal. Dark Souls is good too if you like some RPG-ing that is often rather challenging. And I know you said you're a mac user so PC gaming is mostly a no-no, why not give TF2 a shot if you haven't already? It's free, plus hats!

Batman: Arkham City is a great game. Not sure if it would last a month though.

Try Disgaea, though you will either play it over 9000 hours or get bored of it after 1 or 2. Or just grab your favorite game you will never get sick of.

Disgaea 4 if you are into SRPGs. Avoid Skyrim because it is terrible on the PS3. Otherwise, look into other sandbox games (Saint's Row 2, Red Dead Redemption, etc.) Oh! And Demon's Souls/Dark Souls. So much death and fun.

You could try Heavy Rain, get what you need from it in that month and then forget about it.

Get Skyrim, you could easily do a play through in a month if you are as determined as you sound, a friend of mine has played it semi-hardcore over 3 weeks and he's just starting his 2nd play through.

Obligatory Skyrim, Just Cause 2, etc. I'm not a big expert on PS3s, unfortunately. Don't know what genres you like, though. If you enjoy fighting games, BlazBlue would work too.

On the other hand... Dungeons of Dredmor is available on Steam and Desura, works for macs, costs $5 and is absolutely incredible, so I'm gonna recommend that too. Yes, it will last for a month. In fact, I suspect you could get more time out of it if you wanted, so... I recommend picking that up for when the PS3 is no longer available.

Sorry, not quite what you were looking for, I guess.

Get Skyrim young Dovakiin. Become the Dragonborn and battle the great Alduin. It will fill the month.

I'd suggest Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Pretty perfect length for that time frame, and it's a really good game. Skyrim is an excellent choice depending exactly how long you're going to be playing each day.

Valkyria Chronicles, a thinly-veiled WWII made by japanese (read: Anime style). It's a SRPG with 3rd person shooter mechanics worked in.

How are we supposed to judge whether a game will last a month? We don't know how often you'll play or how quickly you'll proceed. Depending on these, a game could last you anything from a week to months.

Had the same problem yesterday but their avatar was also gone....

Anyways, I would say skyrim of coarse because even in the span of 1 month you can get a lot of stuff done.

Thats really the only game I could think of that would last you that long. Of coarse dark souls is always a option if your highly tolerant. Leveling in that game is very rewarding and the PvP is very fun. They have a area that you can actually sign on to defend and if your wearing the ring, got a good connection, then you can have some very fun fights.

Also if your in to RTS then check out Civ 5. Play the game on what ever is before epic and it will last you a month... Its a very fun and interesting game. The victory possibilities make it a very tactical game, if your not one for just demolishing everything that looks at you funny.

I think its available on macs.

If you have an old (fat) PS3, you probably won't get the bug with Skyrim. So there's that. I personally would suggest Dark Souls, though, since in can be enjoyed fairly thoroughly in about a month (besides replays/online).

Well have you played Oblivion, Fallout 3, New vegas? If so I would steer clear of Skyrim. Skyrim is easily completable in a months time (dependent on how much time your sinking into it. Im calculating an average 5 hours a day and you can complete it in less than 20 days. But if youve played the other bethesda games, Honestly the only thing skyrim brings to the table is fighting dragons, which over time, manages to make it tedious.

Dark Souls is out too because the nature of the game is one that takes a heavy investment of time and frustration, which you may be able to finish it off in a month, but then again, I got it on release and I still have yet to find the time/ambition to complete it.

I would honestly go with Batman Arkham City, LA noire, dead island or Deux Ex HR

Dark Souls would be my pick, pretty much no contest. Skyrim just feels clunky and mysteriously episodic for an open world game, it is fun exploring but the combat is terrible.

Disgaea 4 if you like SRPGs. It will last forever if you are the type to get into them.

Depends what you like really.
