I dislike people like that, sure, but I also dislike people that play one game type only and pass judgment on other games because they're not that game type. I know one guy who couldn't see why everyone like Bioshock so much, meanwhile he loves all the shooters that simulate warfare like CoD4, Halo 3 and Gears of War. He then began to spout out all the reasons he thinks the game is overrated.

I told him the game isn't overrated, it just doesn't fit your tastes. That simple. Of course, he wasn't satisfied with it.

Same with someone else who plays all gun games and can't understand why everyone is so interested in Mario Galaxy.

Or all of those people who play nothing but JRPG's that have told me Fable sucks because the main character doesn't talk. I've heard everyone else's complaint about Fable "sucking" because Peter Molyneux didn't deliver (in which case I blame YOU for actually believing in Peter Molyneux after Black and White to deliver the Jesus of games, as I expected a fun game and, hey, I got a fun game!), but saying it sucks because the main character doesn't talk? Give me a break!

People need to learn when their personal tastes end and where actually critique begins...and most people aren't fit to critique shit.

whoever may have mentioned Assasins creed, i have to say, "its morrowind(not oblivion) crossed with thief, and prince of persia, nuff said" and as for the sad gamers who do disregard other games because they arent to their tastes, but say they are rubbish games, either play a really addictive game, or, they play something like "Runescape", or "WoW", any MMORPG, since, for some reason, these games seem to have infiltrated culture like a man made of chocolate, people cant get enough, it drives everyone else insane. No-one really cares any more. That is the sad truth.

Including most game reviewers.
So true. I love Zero Punctuation but they seem to give him games to review that he doesn't like to play just to get a funny video. He doesn't like MMO's at all yet they throw him into the Tabula Rasa beta. Hell, he came off like he didn't do any research on the game at all in that review. I looked all over game review sites for previews or dev interviews that validated the claims that his friend told him and couldn't find any. I look at game reviews and Zero Punctuation as entertainment with some facts thrown in. At least most game reviewers research the game before they review it. Though I find Zero Punctuation entertaining you have to take it with a grain of salt just like every other game review or "game critics."

Everyone has different tastes, and I'd say your friend simply gets his 'full gaming experience' from the one game or whatever it really doesn't give him much a position to stand on as an 'informed game critic', as it's similar to asking the guy in full spartan armor with weapon reproductions in line for Halo 3 if the Halo games were good. You already known what they're going to say and anything short of bludgeoning death isn't going to change it. I myself enjoyed the Halo series and all the back story and whatnot, but they're rather simplistic FPS games when it comes down to it and that's all they're supposed to be, not the new Messiah or some such, though the apparent 'hype' that says otherwise is rather annoying at best. It's all a matter of opinion though, and I chose Halo as it seems to be the most rabidly split topic on these forums. Anyways, getting off topic there. It sounds like your friend has some issues, and it's highly annoying when people like him... exist. No offense as despite the post you do acknowledge him as your friend. I'd say just treat it like someone with other odd quirks, annoying and rather amusing to various degrees at different times.

main point, if you like a game, play it an enjoy it, but don't try to say its the best game in the world because its the only game you play.
I have more than two siblings which I would have a hard time convincing of that effect.

I'd like to stay on topic, and I have a similar story of my own, unfortunately it is to do with a friend who only plays Halo 3.
What's wrong with that? It's only been out for a very little while, and I can see why someone would still be playing the same game.

And saying a friend ONLY plays a certain game that has been out a couple of months, is a bit of hyperbole on your part, isn't it? I bet he played different games before it came out.

man, I remember late 2007...When Halo was still Somewhat good. Now theres no defending it or liking it unless you wish to be shunned by the online community. Still popular though.

I'd say any gamer can be not only a critic, but a valid critic as long as they aren't a total ignorant fanboy and stay within their respective genre.
For example:
I hate JRPGs. I am aware that i hate JRPGs. If I was a game critic that reviewed everything I would give every turn based JRPG a 0/10 and the rest probably would never break a 3/10. That being said I won't even try to be a critic who reviews JRPGs because I know my opinion isn't valid by the criteria of people who might be interested in purchasing that game, which may i remind you is the purpose of a review.

Now, I like sandbox action games, like the GTA series (however not a fan boy. Didn't like GTA4 nearly as much as SA or SR2) I've played some good ones, some bad ones, I know my way around the genre and i know what makes a good sanbox action game. If I reviewed one of these, i would be able to easily point out its advantages and weak points, making my review a lot more valid and trustworthy.

however, when you say "1 point" it seems like more like you're rephrasing "fanboy" so, yeah, i agree, fanboys make terrible critics.

Yeah I have a friend that went bonkers at me because I said Crysis was a pretty average game. He claims that I wasnt playing it properly or wasnt playing it on the correct difficulties or whatever. Apart from graphics there was nothing he could say about the game that made it into a decent game.

What has the internet done to us as a species? It makes me a sad panda. Who cares if a person only plays 1 game and bashes everything else? Who cares if you only play 1 game and hate the rest? Dear God gaming is a personal preference. One person's opinion should not influence yours. Play what you like, like what you play. And let others do the same.
