My Assassins Creed 2 started acting up. The screen was fuzzy, and buildings started to disappear. Thinking it might be the disc, I popped in Oblivion and to my surprise everything was pink. I turned the xbox 360 off and on again and 1 red ring appeared.
My friend suggested it was something to do with AV. I was puzzled by this, so I said if I bought a new lead, would it fix the problem and he said yes. Is what he says true?
Another friend also said that if it's well and truly screwed, hit it until it gets 3 red rings and it will be fixed for free. :L

Well, if you mean 1 red crescent, then the same thing happened to me.

It was the hard drive, and I lost all of my save data.

Luckily I hadn't done any big games on it though, so it didn't matter.

I had the Red Ring of Death once. But the red bits weren't in the right spots.

Anyway, try looking for what the error could be. Try your hard drive on a friend's console to see if it's a hard drive problem. That's all I got.

EDIT: Other guy says don't try it. Meh, just try taking it in.

I think 1 red ring means there's a lead problem. Happened to me before, but the lead had been knocked out slightly. I corrected it by simply getting a HDMI instead. Far nicer.

Oooh, I might just do this. Even if that isn't the problem, when it's fixed I can still use it.

Do not do this.

If it is a hard-drive problem, then you might break your friend's as well.

What I suggest you do, is go to GAME, then buy xbox 360 insurance.

it costs £20, and they don't ask for proof of purchase or anything.

Wow, I have exactly £20 in my wallet at the moment, I'll go in tomorrow. Thanks, that will be handy.

Check yours is a HDMI model, my friend didn't and ended up with a cable he couldn't use haha.

Yep, although I don't know if they still do it, I got mine like 3 weeks ago though, so it looks good.

One red ring huh? Could be a hard drive problem (I think you can just pick a new one up at your local Wal-Mart.)

You're only well and truly screwed if you get 3 red rings.

I dont know about the single red cresent, but everything turning pink sounds familiar to the problem I had with my previous xbox. Can't really remember the specifics of what was wrong, but it started out with everything going pink - restarted it, and everything was fine, then everything went green, then black. Pretty much the system was working, but the coolant gel burnt out, so the internal device that produced the picture would overheat and basically not work.
If this is whats happened to yours, your xbox is pretty much screwed, but you won't loose your memory. I ended up picking up a new arcade - they have them in aust for $200.
Hopefully its not that problem though and the HDMI cable or something will fix it
