So, I was rummaging around the internet when I stumbled upon this gem of an article: 10 subtle ways to tell her she's getting fat [http://ca.askmen.com/top_10/dating/top-10-subtle-ways-to-tell-her-shes-getting-fat.html]

I honestly couldn't believe what I was reading - having lived with women my whole life, the thought of doing ANY of these things literally made me cringe, and I'm of the opinion that any guy who would try out these "tips" is a complete asshole.

So my question is - what do you think of this article? Do you actually feel these tips would be helpful if this became an issue in a relationship?

No, go straight to the heart of the matter, if she asks.

The harshness of my words denote the amount of care for you... or something like that.

EDIT: Read a bit. I'll be damned if there is anything I won't be able to speak with my girlfriends about. It's a cornerstone of a healthy relationship, in my opinion.

EDIT 2: Done! This article seems to base itself around personal discovery and shame. If you're worried enough about her weight to use subtle steps you owe it to her to come right out with it. She's not an animal, she'll see that you care eventually.

Maybe wearing a cup would have some of these work, but im not going to rush out and try it any time soon, or ever.

I prefer to not say there fat, ever. It results in pain more than help.

Some of them aren't too bad. (buying her clothes that are too small).

Some of them are. (leaving now-and-then photos lying around... haha, smooth).

I hated it; it was disgusting; it was repulsive; I'm seething.

If my boyfriend did any of those things to me? I would dump him. That may sound petty, but that list seemed horribly controlling and manipulative to me.

It's Askmen. Are you surprised? That rag is some of the most vile sexist bile ever put in print.

Reminds me of a certain series of comics our dear friend Tim Buckley did over at Ctrl+Alt+Del...

No, I understand what you're saying completely, and it isn't petty.

A stupid list if you ask me.

Most of these are horribly stupid and manipulative, passive-aggressive, by the gods, before and after photos? Whoever wrote this shit should fall into a well and die.

As a woman, I would be receptive to a straightforward discussion about my partner's concern about my weight. If he pulled any of this pussy bullshit outlined in the article, it would be grounds for dismissal, because I have a very low tolerance for passive-aggressive dickery.

I've always told my bf that if he doesn't like something physical about me (like the clothes i decided to wear on our date, my hairstyle, my weight) that he should tell me so i can fix it =P

I've actually done a few of those with my girlfriend, 8,7,6, and 5 to be exact.

8 and 7 because I needed to get in shape anyway and I figured it might encourage her to do the same.

6 because she's obsessed with ice cream and I'll only agree to ever get her a kids size when we go out.

And 5 because it's fun, plain and simple.

I've also told her plainly that she's getting too chunky, but that didn't exactly motivate her... Quite the opposite.

Um. What.
Okay. So this may be because I am not a total fucking dickwad, but that list kind of made me want to murder some things with penises.
Seriously. I am about five seconds of unbridled douchebaggery from self-castration, here.

So what, she puts on a few pounds and you have to lie and manipulate her into maintaining a figure you like?
Yeah. Not totally fucking detestable at all.
Jesus, women are already stressing the fuck out over their body image. I don't think they need your chauvinistic ass "covertly" telling them they are whales for being anything over one hundred and thirty pounds.

Excuse me while I apply my face to everything solid in the vicinity.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAH that was great! got anymore?
Sorry, I think Buckley realised that it wasn't good for his reputation to be frank about his obscene fixation with physical appearance.
Haven't made anything remotely as offensive since, as far as I'm aware.

There is of course the miscarriage storyline...but that was more stupid than anything else.

I could never do that, weight isn't important to me, personality is.

Because when all is said and done, and you marry someone and you both get old and wrinkly, it's going to be what matters.
