Well, one thing?s for sure: the American Dream stopped being anything but a dream a long time ago.
But all these problems are probably inevitable with just how big America is. A lot just don?t feel the need to venture out for new cultures when they believe they?ve got a pretty great one at home, meet so many ethnic minorities on the street, and can order Chinese takeaway and have it at their house in minutes. As for affection, I?ve always found it strange that it?s perfectly normal for girls to casually hold hands like it?s nothing, but the only time a guy can ever do it is when he?s playing ?Gay Chicken?.
Capitalism and consumerism (which is prominent in the rest of the Western world) is a *****. And Britain like to put up scare stories on the news too. That?s probably the reason my mum thinks I?m going to get sold into sexual slavery if I go to Thailand when I?m older. Although, to be honest, I don?t entirely blame people for being so paranoid. We are constantly hearing in the media (and on this forum) about cases involving murderers, rapists and child molesters.
And yeah, of course the article?s going to be a generalization if it?s talking about culture. It?s not as if every single individual in Japan likes to watch anime centred around bug-eyed, scantily clad high school girls, but it?s still an acceptable observation.
