is reputed to have a 1:1 fired:sink ratio.
No. I don't know where you heard that, but the Exocet is just average as an anti-shipping missile. The only reason it's famous is that it ruined a few British ships in the Falklands. (which was due more to bad construction and tactics than it being a spectacular missile)

Anyway, on topic, you can build just about any action with any caliber, but there are three problems with that idea. First, a shotgun is a close-range weapon best suited to close quarters and entry, whereas a minigun is a gigantic point-defense or suppression weapon - the concepts don't mix well. Second, the continuous average recoil from an M134 7.62 minigun exceeds 150 pounds. Now imagine trying to control several times that size round with a hand-operated weapon. Third, if you want really freaking big miniguns, try the aforementioned GAU-8/A from the A-10. 30mm six-barrel, 3900 RPM, fires a 1/4 mix of high explosive incendiary and DU armor piercing, and while it won't drop the aircraft out of the sky as stated, the peak recoil force IS about five tons - slightly more than half of the A-10's maximum thrust.

I don't think it is possible for someone to use it as a carried weapon but if it was mounted on a wall or something...
Considering a normal minigun can't be used as a carried weapon (the recoil would send you straight into the ground), then yeah, it would have to be mounted.

It's possible, but I don't really understand the point of it. "12 Gauge Minigun" may sound impressive, but it's really not.

Gauge is a measurement of bore diameter.

12 Gauge is 18.53mm.

There already exists 20mm rotary Gatling cannons, which would fall in between a 10 and a 9 Gauge 'Minigun'(the gauge number decreases as the size increases).

'Miniguns' already exist that fire slugs or shells that are larger and more powerful than a 12 Gauge, but they need to be mounted on vehicles as they're too massive to be used by hand.

I suppose hypothetically someone could either modify the ammo feed of a M61 Vulcan to accept smaller 10 or 12 Gauge shotgun shells, or modify the 20mm cannon shells and replace the cannon round with shotgun pellets, but it would be rather pointless.

Also, there's no way you could make a man portable "12 Gauge Minigun". The 'Mini' in the word Minigun refers to the fact that it's a mini version of the much larger rotary Gatling cannon found on aircraft and ships, but if you modified a Minigun to fire ammunition that is more than twice, almost three times the size of it's 7.62mm rounds, then it wouldn't be a mini gun any more, it would be quite big and needed to be mounted.

It's called the AA-12. Which has virtually no recoil. So yes it can and has been done, to a point.
The AA-12 is definitely NOT a minigun.
A fully automatic shotgun does not equal a minigun that shoots 12 gauge rounds.
A true mini-gun is a pistol.

Why bother when auto-shotguns which do exist are so awesome?
