Having said that, mouthy pre-teens need to know when to shut the hell up and have some respect for their elders. Hopefully this is a lesson for everyone.

And it's posts like this that remind me of why I really hate certain elements of gamer culture. We get it, it's annoying when little kids go online and start shouting obscenities -- but it's not anywhere near as annoying as when a grown man does it. I've seen kids doing it once or twice. Adults do it all the freakin' time. Also, when it involves kids, I've had good success getting them to calm down because I'm an adult, a pre-service teacher, and I know how to get kids to listen to me. Seriously, all you guys whining about screaming pre-teens are just proving that you have no idea how to handle kids, or that you are kids yourselves. It's not /that/ difficult.

Wishing horrible things on kids because their parents are absent and you aren't mature enough to handle the situation? Yeah, that reflects well on both you and gamers as a whole[footnote]That was sarcasm, in case it wasn't clear enough.[/footnote].

Enlighten me (asking in complete earnetst) How do you handle screaming kids threatening to skull fuck your mom and yelling other incoherent obscenities at you through a mic?

Seems like even if you speak calmly to them they just keep going anyways. Does it take some sort of extra patience?

The last time it happened to me, I honestly just started asking him questions like "does your mother know you talk like that?" If you keep calm enough, it's entirely possible to shame swearing kids into being more civil.

"Respect your elders" has fucking NOTHING to do with this situation; RAPE is NEVER the answer to ANYTHING. I think you misunderstood me. The society crumbling part was me saying that if more people would do this then pretty much half of all kids in the western world would get raped. I'd call that a crumbling society.
As for the second part, I don't think an adult should get mad at kids. They should discipline them, but to get mad is another thing. That said, if you do get mad there's nothing wrong with that. There is however something wrong with rape. Do you get my point?

I did have a reply. My statement was a deliberate exaggeration to highlight how ridiculous the idea of 'Bad thing has happened, everybody be miserable' actually is. I would understand the point of view if the original post was somehow a bad joke. It wasn't. It was genuinely funny. It wasn't like the 'Will they have to upgrade Steve Jobs' coffin every now and then and keep removing features until they forget what it was actually made for?' joke I saw on Facebook. That was genuinely tasteless and unfunny, and just showed bitterness on the part of the 'joker'.

The whole reason you're getting all upset is because somebody made a pun. You need to sort your priorities out.

I'm getting that feeling as well. I've probably been using 'get mad' ubiquitously, at some points meaning having an emotion and at other times acting on it. And with 'get off the handles' I meant to relate to the incident in question.
