As terrifying and sickening as that was, my first thought on the situation was "Oh shit, shitstorm inbound."

ITT: People blaming the child for instigating, people blaming the adult for not being responsible, people saying both were at fault, and finally, people saying either side was awesome for different reasons.
Yep, you've summed it up quite nicely.

Rape is a despicable, horrible act, one of the worst known to mankind.
Having said that, mouthy pre-teens need to know when to shut the hell up and have some respect for their elders. Hopefully this is a lesson for everyone.
And it's posts like this that remind me of why I really hate certain elements of gamer culture. We get it, it's annoying when little kids go online and start shouting obscenities -- but it's not anywhere near as annoying as when a grown man does it. I've seen kids doing it once or twice. Adults do it all the freakin' time. Also, when it involves kids, I've had good success getting them to calm down because I'm an adult, a pre-service teacher, and I know how to get kids to listen to me. Seriously, all you guys whining about screaming pre-teens are just proving that you have no idea how to handle kids, or that you are kids yourselves. It's not /that/ difficult.

Wishing horrible things on kids because their parents are absent and you aren't mature enough to handle the situation? Yeah, that reflects well on both you and gamers as a whole[footnote]That was sarcasm, in case it wasn't clear enough.[/footnote].
Enlighten me (asking in complete earnetst) How do you handle screaming kids threatening to skull fuck your mom and yelling other incoherent obscenities at you through a mic?

Seems like even if you speak calmly to them they just keep going anyways. Does it take some sort of extra patience?
The last time it happened to me, I honestly just started asking him questions like "does your mother know you talk like that?" If you keep calm enough, it's entirely possible to shame swearing kids into being more civil.
your joking right?

Put this fucking **** to death.

I'm so fucking sick of the apologists here, even though (thankfully) they are in the minority. "Respect your elders" has fucking NOTHING to do with this situation; RAPE is NEVER the answer to ANYTHING. This guy is a scumbag and does not deserve to be part of society, and neither do the fuckers defending him.
your completely and utterly right rape is in no way the answer but a twisted story like this has brought about the topic of children and the way they are being brought up and they way they are acting in society. most 'apologists' are actually being apologists they have just been in the position or seen a smack talking 12 year old who deserves their accounts banned and locked in the rooms till they grow the hell up. theres no one on this thread besides the occasional troll who has actually sided with the 'rapists' the only things people have come close with is they believe it was less rape and more abuse with a wii remote

No. If you do it right, showing the kid some respect while exuding maturity and authority, it works. Maybe I'm just unusually good with kids.

No. No. Nothing justifies rape. Ever. See above on my post.
We don't know his intention was to rape the kid. If he wanted to rape the kid, I'm pretty sure he would have stuck something of his own in the kid instead of some object.

Seriously, how can it be called rape when the rapist wasn't having sex with anyone.

... an adult shouldn't get mad at some kids being kids. In this day and age spouting off is simply normal, and if everyone would go off the handles every time a kid disrespected them society would crumble. Get mad? Fine, you have every right to, feelings are only human. Scream at them? Fine, they did it to you. A good old fashioned spanking? If you feel the need to, I don't see the downside.
... huh?
I think you misunderstood me. The society crumbling part was me saying that if more people would do this then pretty much half of all kids in the western world would get raped. I'd call that a crumbling society.
As for the second part, I don't think an adult should get mad at kids. They should discipline them, but to get mad is another thing. That said, if you do get mad there's nothing wrong with that. There is however something wrong with rape. Do you get my point?
Your definitions of "get mad at" and "go off the handles" must differ from mine.

People, people, lets stop arguing and instead lets rofl a bit at the post I'm shamelessly bumping because no one laughed the first time around, denying my narcissistic need for attention.
Also, I have a few more I thought up during BIO 101 today.

Let's see how many funny comments we can make in twenty seconds.

"Have you not heard of Wii Sports: brutal difficulty?"
"This is a great idea. I always have trouble finding my remote."
"That is not how you calibrate the sensors..."
"This wouldn't have happened if you just kept the wrist-strap on."
"Looks like Nintendo found a new idea for their next game launch."
"I've heard the Wii's motion control handled like ass."
"At least it's not an N64 controller."
"Those remotes are pretty shitty."
"I hope the kid can recover emotionally but it's going to take a while to pass."

If you dont have a reply then dont reply, simple.
I did have a reply. My statement was a deliberate exaggeration to highlight how ridiculous the idea of 'Bad thing has happened, everybody be miserable' actually is. I would understand the point of view if the original post was somehow a bad joke. It wasn't. It was genuinely funny. It wasn't like the 'Will they have to upgrade Steve Jobs' coffin every now and then and keep removing features until they forget what it was actually made for?' joke I saw on Facebook. That was genuinely tasteless and unfunny, and just showed bitterness on the part of the 'joker'.

The whole reason you're getting all upset is because somebody made a pun. You need to sort your priorities out.

I'm getting that feeling as well. I've probably been using 'get mad' ubiquitously, at some points meaning having an emotion and at other times acting on it. And with 'get off the handles' I meant to relate to the incident in question.

Ah, yes... because this forum is the only place where your emotions are decided. If you dont make a joke about a child being raped here then clearly you are miserable, does that maybe put it into perspective for you?

Oh and I am not upset, I just know what is and is not right and am not completely apathetic toward other people.

I would say when youve just found out a child was raped is one of those times.
The definition of rape is to take what you want from an unwilling victim. To destroy the rainforests for paper is to rape the Earth. To shove a Wiimote up a kid's ass is not rape. It's object abuse. Don't mix them up.

Wow, you are determined to defend someone who forcefully sexually assaulted a child arent you?

Why dont you act as his defence? You seem like you REALLY want to do that.

EDIT: Also, blatant misinformation on your part. When referring to the crime "rape", which this was, it is forced sexual assault.
