Ok i dont want to start a flame war or anything and i would like to clarify that i have nothing against young kids that game but do they really not get that if they dont use a mic no one would know their age.

I used to play BF2 when i was 12 and i never used a mic and no one ever asked me my age, i dont know if they dont realise or just dont care.

Do people realise that without any personal information anyone can be any age on the internet?

...?

I suppose?

What are we supposed to be discussing, sorry? That twelve-year-olds shouldn't use mics because they're giving away personal information, or that they shouldn't get upset when people abuse them in games for being twelve when they reveal that info by going on a mic?

If it's the first, it's not a problem. So long as they don't sing their address and school hours. If it's the second, people shouldn't abuse them for being twelve. By your logic, I shouldn't go on mic because I get get attention for being English, women shouldn't go on because they get abuse for their gender, and pretty-much no-one but white American's should go on the mic without complaining.

It's simple, really. If they're smart, they don't talk and just play the game. If they're idiots, they'll either talk constantly, insulting us more mature gamers, or they'll micspam. Either way, they eventually get kicked or muted. Sometimes both.

I myself am 18, I play with a mic, and everyone I play with seems to realize I don't sound six years younger, so they respect me in that right. I can't stand little kids in games anyway. Why do they even have the games if they're clearly under the age requirement?

I like to imagine that all the people I'm playing with are older than me and I'm just really really good at the game.

When the kids speak up it dispells my illusion and I don't have fun anymore.

Sorry a bit abstract...
I mean that the younger gamer demographic get ripped off online and this could easily be avoided by just not using a mic.

God forbid i can't believe i'm defending 12 year olds; but its not even all 12 year olds on games who use mics that are the problems. Its just the screaming demanding, rude and all-out vulgar ones.

Yes congratulations you've insulted your mother over the internet, made a derogitory remark and yelled profanity, which has left an unforgivable stain on the insides of my ear drums.
These types of kids, regardless of age or pitch of voice, shouldn't be allowed mic usage.

The sensible ones, who can maturely use their mics should by all means join in with the in-game chatter. To me its a matter of mental age over real age.

Also i'd like to say, if you're one of the kids i described in the 2nd paragraph i urge you to find some heavy traffic to play in.

I aggree with the 'mental age' thing.

Also i think push button talk should be compulsary as it:
a. makes it harder to talk and
b. you dont hear people breathing into their headset which is really creepy.

No problem, man. It's probably my issue for just having woken up. Anyway, on topic...

Again, it's a difficult issue. People shouldn't have to hide their age on the internet for fear of being abused, especially if it's a game in their age-demographic. However, it's inevitable that they will be. It's the most accepted form of abuse to someone over the internet with the possible exception of gay-sounding men and just above women who beat people at the game. If I was twelve, I'd make a point of going on mic when I was destroying everyone. People can talk shit about my age, but knowing I'm a damn-sight better than them when I was twelve when they were twice my age would be well worth it.

Well, because of the Xbox "communist headset give-away microphone" system, there's no real way to avoid squeaky pitch voices and really cocky people. All you can do is, sadly, muting and play the game as you see fit.

Like they say, don't feed the trolls.

But they are still better than those unsocial jerks who DON'T use the microphone.
It's boring with an entire team without mics. Seriously.

Rather idiots shouldn't use a mic. Just idiots with squeaky voices are easier to notice.

Meh, I'm 13 and I don't usually get yelled at for it.
Perhaps because I don't scream my head off and act like a shithead.

responsible use of the mic is key, if anyone tells me that there is someone creeping up on me that great but if its just someone crying because their k/d dropped below 1 or whatever that just annoying no matter what age they are.

Yeah wanted to say something like that, still don't think twelve year old should use mics though I know that some are muture and all that jazz but really all there asking for is trouble. There should be some quick I.Q test before you buy a mic or something.

Yes... Because everyone loves the americans. :p

I mean, theyve really beaten the brits into second place of most hated country.

But besides i think you're right, if you get flamed because you're 12 that's because other players are twats.

HOWEVER, if you get flamed for being an immature idiotic tit all the time, i can't blame the other players so much...

It's not that bad really, unless of course the 12-year old can't speak english.

I was playing Project Reality (a BF2 mod) and joined a random squad. Imagine my surprise and mental anguish when I discovered that the squad leader war a very young and attention demanding russian boy.

I remember him shouting at me several times, presumably because I didn't follow his suicidal orders to the letter, in high-pitched russian. And this after explaining very calmly to his squadmates, who were also russian but very much older and with a rudimentary understanding of english, that I had no way of understanding him.

He tried to counter this fact by screaming louder, as if that would make me suddenly understand him.

Not to whine on 12-year olds, but he was just stupid.

Anyone ever listen to the really long clip on youtube with some kid who's ingame name is Hobbes making a wow raid cry with laughter? Its pretty funny, it also shows why some kids shouldn't have mic's but then again you could say that it made for some epic entertainment.

I began online FPSing when I was 10, I used a mic and was by no means a dumb little yelling kid. I give them the benefit of the doubt until they prove me wrong, which happens often... But if they want to talk and be logical, then let them have their fun.
