Hunh... I could make a Philly joke (being from Pittsburgh), but it seems in extremely bad taste.

So I'll say this. I can wonder what went through his head when he htought about this. Also, this is why we need to hit our kids. If they dont fespect (fear-respect) you, this is what happens.
Fear and respect are not interchangeable.

EDIT: Quoted myself for some reason... Fixed.
Not how I was taught, but I grew up in a military family.

THIS is why some parents are hesitant to discipline their kids.

Cremate her in the oven... WHILE STILL ALIVE?! I mean, GOOD LORD. One of the most disturbing things in the Chzo Mythos was finding the bloody handprints in the oven, I can't believe someone would try it in real life.

Fear-spect isn't the motivator you think. The more your kid fears you the more easily you get to be associated with all things negative and threatening, once you become threatening enough...

OT: I'm going to call this a d-bag kid who never learned that others are people too and not just problems he can deal with and I'm willing to bet on this being a rational decision on his part not an emotional/visceral one.

And the media storm begins...

OT: I'm not sure how to react to this... I have a feeling that the kid was going to turn into a serial killer or arsonist or something tasty like that, so maybe it was a good thing that this was brought to attention...

... but on the other hand, I can't help but feel bad for him...

Wow. I feel both enraged at and sorry for him at the same time.

[sub]Also, can we leave the imminent 'games don't cause violence waaah' comments out of this thread please?[/sub]
Me too. Except for the sorry part. Yeah, I don't feel sorry at all.

Hang him with an electric rope and pump the lethal injection stuff until he stops twitching.

People can fake being sorry. It's much harder to fake being dead.

This is true. Respect is much better than fear-spect.

Although spanking is still a good idea. I didn't fear my parents after a spanking.

attempting to cremate her in the kitchen oven
I'm wondering how big was the oven was, also what this whole scene looked like. Whether half of her was sticking out and he put the other arm in after 30 minutes or what.

Also has he not seen what comes out of ovens? Meat put in ovens comes out lovely, surely the fireplace would be where to start if you wanted ashes.

Look at the article below that, the headline reads:

Games Might Not Desensitize Us To Violence After All
The "video games desensitize children to violence" argument is a popular weapon in the arsenal of the anti-violent video game crowd. A new study finds violent games to have no effect on long-term emotional memory at all.

Researchers at Ryerson University in Toronto led by Holly Bowen, a PhD candidate in psychology, gathered a group of 122 male and female undergraduate students in both gaming and non-gaming flavors to act as test monkeys in an experiment that would determine the effect of violent gaming on long-term emotional memory. Among the 45 students that had reported video game exposure in the six months prior to the study, games like Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty titles ranked high on their list of favorite games.

The students were all shown a series of 150 images depicting negative, positive and neutral scenes. An hour later they were shown the same scenes with a series of 150 distractor images randomly mixed in. During the second set of images, students were asked to identify whether they had seen each card before.

Researchers believed that the students that regularly played video games would be less sensitive to violent imagery, and would therefore not remember the negative pictures as readily as students that did not play games.

This was not the case. Gamers and non-gamers showed no significant differences in their recollections. On top of that, a questionnaire regarding students' emotion arousal following the experiment showed no differences as well.

"The findings indicate that long-term emotional memory is not affected by chronic exposure violent video games," said Bowen.

Bowen and colleagues caution that the results are those from adolescents and not children, and that children could still prove more impressionable.

It's a little flimsy, but then so is any experiment people arguing these issues like to toss around. Use it in good health.

Kevin Butler will be in the courtroom soon. All he will say will be.

"Do you see any other game systems driving kids to murder their parents with clawhammers? I don't think so. I think the defense can rest it's case. The playstation is the only console sweet enough to kill for. Next witness."
