I had a kid ask me if I would buy GTA4 for him. In my book, that's a step up from being asked to buy beer or smokes.
Happened with me too, I bought it for him, but only because he threw in 20 bucks for me. Did you buy it for him?

Yeah, he's pretty smart (and 15) so I figured I might as well.

I myself am 14 and i play GTA IV all the time and yes my mom knows and she also bought it for me so i don't see the problem if your mature enough to handle the content. For example i know a couple of kids that aren't mature enough and their parents see that so they don't get the game.

Yay, I'm part of that 17%... well, I am 15 now, so no harm, no foul.

Anyways, I'm not really surprised by the results of the research. Many parents buy their kids whatever they ask for, so yeh, no real shocker.

Only 17 percent? Maybe most of the older players don't play the multiplayer, because from my experience, the majority of people playing it are under 18. Hell, I've played games where there were literally four year olds playing. It's ridiculous. Though, sometimes those kids are actually more mature than the older people who constantly spout racist things or say nigga every other word.

Interesting. Well I have to say I would have figured the number to be higher. Having worked in a game store (One of the single most painful jobs I've had in my life despite what I would have thought) I used to see underaged kids come in trying to buy games that we couldn't sell to them. So to see a number that low with all the parents that just rubber stamp game purchases is a bit of a boost. Though I still think this is some weird fluke, but then again maybe the ESRB is actually getting through to these people. -shrugs-

I bet this is BS.

Besides the sooner we stop paying attention to GTA the sooner it'll go away.

Only 17%? I'm surprised. Pleasantly, in fact. Mind you, GTA4 is one of those games that isn't really twitchy enough to hold the kiddies' interest the way past games in the series have been, but that's still encouraging.

Any statistic is a) subject to scrutiny in relation to it's accuracy (especially when it's about something that is deviant or otherwise socially unacceptable) and b) open to interpritation. A statistic is merely a number, on it's own it means absolutely nothing unless you put it in a context (search the world far and wide enough and you could probably find a statistic that suggests that we will all die of horrible, incurable diseases by next thursday).

I wouldn't pay much attention to this, after all, 76% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
