I just finished reading 1984, and it's scary as hell.

Any one else here who finished 1984 and found it disturbing?

o_O I finished it just last night. Scary coincidence, yeah it was pretty disturbing just at the end. It was really interesting though.

To me it was a very logical book. It made you think. I agree with furburt that it wasn't the best written. To me it wasn't scary at all.

It was...average:

Not particularly scary, not particularly deep, not particularly well-written.

All things considered, I preferred Animal Farm Half-life 2.

At least the WMG page made things more interesting.

Still creeped out by the prospect, and some paintings inspired by the book hanging around in a particular english classroom...
But for enraging math teachers, I'm glad I gave it a go.

It's an OK book, and without it, what else would liberal-arts college students reference!?!

Great book, though I'd have to say the movie did a better job of recreating it.

Be aware, it was made in the 40's.

It was basically just social commentary in disguise. Orwell looked at what he considered to be the major problems in the world and imagined what would happen if they were excellerated/if they continued to grow. I think that's it on a basic level, though yeah part 3 is pretty effective at creeping you out aswell.

Preferred Animal Farm, simply because it mixes a similar serious subject with the absurd, but I still liked it a lot.

It has much relevance in today's society.
However, studying it for GCSE does remove some of the entertainment values.

I thought that the end could make an optimist kill himself. I mean seriously, that was some dark shit.

If you really liked it, read Animal Farm. It's just like 1984, only instead of Big Brother there's pigs that represent Russia's greatest dictators.
