Who's excited? Anyone pre-order? I've been looking forward to the game for years and I am expecting it to be the RPG of the year.

If you haven't heard of the game and you are into RPGs, make sure you give it a look! Basically it's a grid-based old-school RPG in the style of Eye of the Beholder D&D classic, with great-looking modern graphics. Gameplay trailer below.

I preordered a while ago. The game has gotten decent exposure by a Finnish gaming magazine, so I've been following it for a while. I'm actually surprisingly exited about Grimrock, given my experience with the genre is limited to the first Lands of Lore game.

Hopefully the game sells so the devs can push out the map editor they've talked about.

After watching some gameplay last week, I went from indifferent to quite interested. I probably won't get it immediately upon release (I have too many games to play as it is), but it looks like something I'll pick up at some point. It seems to get the lonely dungeon-crawler atmosphere down nicely, and combat is nicely tactical. I didn't see any, but apparently it's got some puzzles in it too.

Also, so pretty:

I'm actually really excited to play, I have it preordered on Steam

I actually think there's an in-game map. I don't know where I saw that, but I think it was on one of the preview screenshots.

Yep, here it is:

The game features 'an old school mode' that disables auto-mapping. I'm not really seeing the appeal, but hey, it's nice to have options.

Yeah challenge accepted :)

I loved dungeon master and those old games. I'm gonna give it a try. :D

TB's video shows the UI has plugins for things like expansions and a user made maps. So I'm guessing they're working on it.

I myself preordered the day it came out on GoG so I am excited as all hell. Can't wait for the 11th.

Well many of the old-school games had automapping anyway. The Gold Box games, EOTB, Lands of Lore, Might and Magic, Wizardry (I think). If I turn it off I'll still be drawing a map, so it just seems like a pain in the ass for nothing.

Its mostly because really ancient games (Think Ultima 3-4) didnt have automaps (Dungeon master didn't even have music, or a map). Not to mention at the time players played Dungeons and Dragons and took to making their own dungeon maps via graph paper. It is more of a return to nostalgia for most players that do that themselves and want to feel lost in a way.

It just adds another level of difficulty to it. As it's down to you to keep track of it.

I won't be picking it up on release but I will certainly be getting it in the near future.

I still have a few games i've recently got that I need to get through.

This one brings back memories of ye olde dungeon crawlers and looks a lot like games I used to play many moons ago (but with nicer graphics). So it is one I will be picking up when I can have time to show it the attention it deserves.

Might be worth mentioning if you preorder it before the 11th you get it for 3$ off it`s base price.

I don't like you anymore.

I had to pre order it just to save a couple of quid. Well it's like dangling a shiny in front of a Magpie, the buggers gonna take it.

Yeah there's actually a recent blog post [http://www.grimrock.net/2012/04/05/review-impressions-and-map-editor-news/#more-1641] from the devs with info on this. Apparently they've started the groundwork for it, and are planning to release it incrementally, adding features in later releases. Hopefully it works out.

Best of luck. There's ten levels (if I recall correctly) and the option can't be turned off mid-way, so it sounds kinda scary. I know I'd just get lost and starve to death in some corner, or something equally depressing.

Well rats. Grimrock should've unlocked two hours ago, but there's apparently some shenanigans with Steam again, so the game still shows up as 'pre-order' in my library. Looks like my inevitable fate as snail food got postponed until tomorrow.

Happily, Almost Human tweeted [https://twitter.com/#!/AlmostHumanLtd] that they're looking into the issue.

Since there isn't an official Steam forum for the game, this thread [http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2577949] is probably the best substitute.

Edit: The game is available through the Humble Bundle store now, but I think I'll wait for my Steam copy (achievements are nice).
