Hello Escapists.

This thread is going to be two threads for the price of one, as the title implies. This is because I had two ideas for a thread at the same time and didn't want to spam them across the website. Anyways, on with the threading!

Question 1: You are greeted one day by an average looking man with a briefcase and a smile on face. He claims that with your consent, he can fix whatever problem you want fixed; be it superficial or more life threatening, with a simple one time pill or medical procedure.

He can only fix one specific problem however, but when he does fix it, it will remain fixed for the rest of your life - no recurrences and no injury can restart the problem.

Assuming you agree to his proposition, what do you have fixed?

Question 2: Now for a change of pace and less of a what if question...

Suggest me a martial art? I've been looking for a good martial art to pursue for a while now.

Aside from a 10 week karate course when I was nine and some self taught basic self defense moves, I have no experience with martial arts. I have no preference of where it comes from, but I do like the idea of using mostly counterattacks, throws and techniques of that nature.

Question 1. My depression. Everything that is wrong in my life stems from depression. If I don't have it, I can start getting my life back on track.

Question 2. Judo. Making people fall down has never looked so awesome.

To question one: I have my health fixed to the level that I'll live for 200 years and have the appearance of a very healthy 30 year old man for all of those years that I live, once I actually turn 30, of course.

To question two: I would suggest krav maga, not just because Sam Fisher used it, but because it's a really effective martial art.

Well, I know zilch about martial arts and self-defense, so I'll give you two answers for the price of one and have the pill teach me every martial art known to man (then suggest you the one I see fit)!

1. My lack of self-confidence.
2. Is Kendo classed as a martial art. If not I suggest TKD, that shit looks awesomesauce.

1) The one problem I would have fixed is my commitments constantly conflicting with eachother, or things coming up at the last minute. I can't do my college job as a literacy tutor when I have classes in the morning, or I can't go to boxing some nights because I have a shift working at my college's radio station (unpaid, part of my program). Once I finish college, I'd like to be a radio announcer by day, amateur boxer by night, with some free time to catch up on things/spend time with friends on the weekends. But things are never that simple, are they?

2) From what I've heard, Aikido is pretty much the epitome of counter-attack focused martial arts. I believe it was originally developed as a way to subdue attackers without hurting them. Although from what one of my friends who used to train in Aikido says, you can hurt people pretty badly.

In terms of pure practicality, you can't go wrong with Boxing. There's a good focus on defense (dodging and weaving, using your momentum from ducking a punch to come back with a counter-punch of your own). And there's a huge emphasis on physical fitness, which is always handy for defending attacks, or even enduring them if some of them happen to slip past your defenses.

Question One:

That's a pretty heavy question, all things considered, given how much power that one has. I'm tempted to think of some way I could help myself and everyone else at the same time, but it's a pretty tough bill to be that encompassing. If I have anything I could repair, it would be my lack of money. An endless font of money could fix a lot of the little issues, such as college, living location, proximity to those I could otherwise help, help pay for friends' debts, among other things.

Money isn't the key to happiness, I know, but I think it could be a step in the right direction, for many as well as myself.

Question Two:

Depends entirely on what you'd like to do. I'm a little guy, without a whole lot in the way of mass or strength. That means I would do well with Judo or Aikido, which rely almost exclusively on momentum and already existent energy. However, in terms of self-defense, they require something close to amazing mastery, or else you can very painfully hurt yourself or your attacker. (Which includes permanent damage that may not be in terms of solely self-defense.)

If you're a bigger guy, and like striking, things like Krav Maga, Savate, Muay Thai, and kick-boxing. You can also take up more grapple-friendly works like wrestling, Pankration, and Sambo, depending on how you like your grappling.

The trick for martial arts is knowing yourself, and how your philosophies lie. Aikido mentions that any time a conflict erupts in physical combat, then no one wins, so it avoids conflict, and favors disabling attackers as the most violent thing one can do, and a last resort. A martial art like Shotokan encourages precise strikes and knowing many katas for many situations. Something like Muay Thai encourages very hard-hitting KO strikes. Or, even Krav Maga, which encourages winning, regardless of cost. So, biting, using found object, or breaking bones is completely acceptable.

So, depends on you. Personally, I like Aikido.

Question 1: Depression. The medical type. It's not too much of an issue right now but it's still a serious problem

Question 2: I did Jiu Jitsu and enjoyed myself for a few years. And I have a couple friends who enjoy it. I haven't been in it in years, but I still know how to defend myself in case someone attacks me with a practical attack.

1: The rest of the world

2: Shotokan (Karate): Heavy Defence, Counter-Attack based martial Art, your feet will be numb and you'll near to dodge/defend several blows with the ability to leave your opponent opponent open for a "one-hit KO".

Mortality- i would have infinite time to learn and fix the rest of my problems. Also it would be bad growing old but in the future there is definitely going to be something to fix that even if i have to figure that out myself.

Question 1: I assume this is "problem" and not "Attribute". Relationship issues... Things always go wrong with chicks for me... Not even being in a relationship forever, but having the ability to attract a girl from time to time...

Question 2: Krav Maga... The whole point of it is:
1) Get in
2) Destroy your opponents Body
3) Get out

Fast, aggressive martial art

1. Erectile Dysfunction, I'm planning ahead just in case. I'm not letting that stop me!

2. Hrm lets see.

If your calm and don't like violence choose judo or jujitsu.

If your looking for something to blow of steam go for karate or taekwondoe.

If you want to kill somebody mai thai(that's not how you spell it is it?) I'm not joking here, it's a VERY dangerous martial art. And find yourself a good teacher too, you don't want to get injured in class.

These are all the ones I have a good amount of experience with so I'll stick to those.

Question 1: I might ask for all my hearing damage to be fixed(and if it can never happen again that would be great) or I might fix a problem I've had with my knee for the past couple years that makes it hard to run for long periods of time.

Question 2: I don't know enough about martial arts to recommend one.

Q1: Student loan debt repaid. It's nothing debilitating, but it would free up my finances a bit, and I'd like that very much.

Q2: Capoeira. It's fun, and hey, if you never get in a fight, at least you can dance.
