On top of what everyone has said, I'd recommend the Guild Wars collection too. I'm not sure how much it is, but it's great value for money even at retail price and a good introduction into the MMORPG genre.

It is a must have.
This by far.

Serious sam HD gold pack is well worth getting, so is super meat boy, Metro 2033 and the Stalker series which are true PC FPS games not some console port. If you like your MMOs try out Eve online theres a special deal going on atm. Also RTSs by Relic and the Total war games

Also get Oblivion and Morrowind plus the exp packs, same goes for the original Dragon Age Origins. Ill mention Recettear and Magica aswell

With steam you are best waiting until games you like come on sale, just check steam every day and make sure you have some cash in your account. Xmas is the best time for sales, You will find that within no time at all you have tons of games that you bought for £3-5 each.

As for new games that you dont want to wait for it to appear on sale, you might be better off buying the boxed version from a local store or the net as Boxed PC games usually drop really fast in price and usually are cheaper then the Steam version

The humble indie bundle is a bargin aswell

And the first post takes it, may as well close the thread now.

I agree with this choice is what I am saying.
This no doubt..

TF2 is alone the worth about 6793 dollars, cause it is the best game ever made.

Well, you could also wait a bit for a good game to come on sale, and then save some to buy another good game on sale later.

Suggestions:

Orange Box, it's worth it for TF2 alone, but on top of that you get Half life 2 and the first two episodes of it, and Portal.
Seriously, if you like shooters at all you should get this. Now.

Or, get Magicka and Torchlight (separately), although that would cost about 25$...
Both are very good indie top down action games with Torchlight being an RPG as well.

I really thought about this, but unfortunately WoW is the sole reason i ended up with a sweet gaming PC, but have not played any awesome games on it. haha

I quit WoW a month or so ago after about 2 1/2 years, i just can't get into another MMO if i want my relationship to survive!

Nobody has mentioned Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale. Might not be up your alley, but I LOVE this game. It's the first one in a while that I found addictive enough that it actually made me lose track of time.

Chomp your way through the demo section - that should keep you busy for a while and maybe something unexpected hooks you along the way. :9

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl ($20) or Call of Pripyat ($15). Two of the best ever FPSRPGs. Avoid Clear Sky. >_>

Star Wars fan
Republic Commando (short campaign (around 5 hours), but it's crazy fun, with decent multiplayer)
and
KOTOR
$10 each
Or
Orange Box
Or
AudioSurf is also awesome, as well as Altitude (10 each I think)
Magicka is apparently popular...

Orange box is 20 dollars. You get Half Life 2, an engaging fps. You get Team Fortress 2, a whacky online random-matches type fps. You get Portal, an excellent puzzle game with great story (a little short though).

If not Orange Box, then Magica.

Orange Box...it's like 5 games and they've individually won more awards than other games I know of that's for sure.
