2009 Game of the Year

Batman: Arkham Asylum for me. In a rain of (often fantastic; U2, AC2, L4D2, MW2) sequels, this new franchise managed to surprise me the most.

alright modern warfare 2 mainly for the spec ops, and for me its empire total war. if you have to ask why then you probably havent played it, because the attention to detail is godly

I dunno man, it got a little boring 25 hours in, and having to fight the bosses 3 times was a dick move.

Game of the Year this year i think should go to Halo 3: ODST because of 2 reasons.
1. Because the storyline to it was a little weird but manage to stay intact because of Halo 2 and Halo 3 but also because that ODST's are humans and not MASTER CHIEF!.
2. Firefight is a great new mode (even tho it was pretty much like GOW2 Horde mode) was unique in a way because of the Halo Universe and the maps of firefight would be much better if there were some DLC.

Obviously you will have a different opinion but this is mine.

Yo, AHWaffle, I'm really happy for you, and I'mma let'cha keep your opinion, but Dragon Age: Origins is one of the best games of all time. One of the best games of all time!


On a serious note, I haven't found any of the games released this year to be more than temporarily enthralling. I guess DA:O receives my vote because nothing else is coming to my mind. It provided a few days of entertainment.

Well the winner will be whomever paid enough money to the right people for the honor. It will probably also vary from publication to publication.

I imagine the winner will be Modern Warfare 2, that 200 million for advertising had to go somewhere and their ads so far were nothing unusually impressive.

The winner SHOULD be a coin toss between Arkham Asylum and Dragon Age: Origins though.

Borderlands should be a contender at least, but to be honest doesn't seem as good as the other two.

That was probably the only real fault with the game. As soon as you defeated the Nine Tailed Fox, it should've more or less ended. But instead it keeps going on and moves away from the initial story and characters we know and love.

It'll come down to who pays more. IW for that game they made or Bioware. I don't see a GOTY as anything more than who pays the most for it. Is there anything out this year actually worthy of that kind of praise? I suppose that's up to the individual, I personally can't point at anything and say 'yeah that was epic enough for a goty award' but I'm pretty jaded at this point.

even as a big halo fan Id have to agree with most everybody els hear that ODST was not GOTY material. this was kind of a disappointing year for me but the game I enjoyed most was dragon age. It has done a nice job of distracting me until mass effect 2 comes out

Best Game Built Around an Existing Property? Assassin's Creed 2 or Arkham Asylum. (I could've said Best Sequel, but I can't lump AA as either a sequel or original title...)

Hard to comment when I still have AC2 and L4D2 to play, but other than those two, I'd probably go with Uncharted 2.
