So its official, as of the 17th of December there are to be no more 2010 releases. Im sure you can agree, it has been a year of exceptional releases and a few empty pockets. We have seen the likes of Halo Reach, Fable 3, COD: Black Ops, Heavy Rain and WoW: Cataclysm to name a few. Its a been a year riddled with controversy mixed with heavy anticipation and hype, and alas it has come to an end.

Its time to choose, what has been your GoTY, and why?

Probably not very original, but for me it's Mass Effect 2.

It was everything I wanted after ME1.

I will go Mass Effect 2 as well. It's easy to forget about because it was released in January, but it was probably the most perfect and polished game I've played this year.

Fallout New Vegas for me. Yes it was riddled with bugs, but other than that I found that it imporved on just about everything Fallout 3 had to offer as well as just being basicly more Fallout 3. I was hooked on that game even after it deleted my data 3 times. For me then that has to be one hell ofa good game and my favourite this year.

Next time search, there's already been at least six of these threads in the past couple of days.

Alpha Protocol. I don't care what people say. I loved that damn game, I've played through the thing nine times at this point.

New Vegas for me at the moment, by a huge margin. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.246820]

However, this may change soon if NFS: Hot Pursuit lives up to its well received reviews. So far, it is doing that for me, although the handling does seem a tad vague and unresponsive. The A.I has impressed me so far, actually dodging, taking short-cuts and actually fighting back. Only time will tell and se if it can knock New Vegas out of my GoTY spot.

Mass Effect 2, Limbo, Super Meat Boy, or...and I know I'll be flamed to hell by everyone who thinks it's cool to hate on what is popular...Halo Reach. Haven't yet played Brotherhoods or New Vegas though.

Two games I enjoyed most last year would be:

1) Mass Effect 2 for good writing, engaging character interaction and adding so many great details to the already well-developed setting of ME.
2) Assassin's Creed 2 for the sheer flow of the game, basically the same thing that I liked about the first AC, but improved in many ways.

With these two games, I would not play anything else and stay up late at night to continue. Which is pretty much my definition of a good game.

It's kind of sad that both of my picks are sequels. On the other hand, they're both sequels to games explicitly planned as first parts of trilogies, so maybe it's not that bad.

Either Assassins Creed Brotherhood, Fallout: New Vegas, or Red Dead Redemption. I mean each was good in their own merits, but realistically if Red Dead Redemption doesn't pick up at least a good few nomination I will be severely disappointed, I mean apart from anything else the crossing the border into Mexico with Jose Gonzalez accompanying you is worth at least a nomination on its own...

This is a tough one. Not because of the games themselves, but because I just haven't enjoyed gaming as a hobby this year the way I did in years past. Fallout New Vegas was good. It improved on things that I absolutely hated about FO3 (mainly animations). But it failed to deliver that same sense of wonder that I got from Fallout 3. Same with Fable 3. I enjoyed Fable 2 so much more, even though its sequel is a superior game in my opinion. I don't know why this is. But I feel that gaming is starting to die to me now.

The last game that I really enjoyed was Mass Effect 2. So congratulations, Bioware, for another success. FYI, Mass Effect 3 is the only game I'm looking forward to in the next little while. Sadness.

Red Dead Redemption, it just shows a lot (and I mean a LOT) of dedication from Rockstar. They could do something similar to GTA but although you can say that RDR is GTA with horses it wouldnt be totally accurate. They nailed the western feel, the animals behaviour is really good, the gameplay is fun and although it has some bugs it is still a very polished game.

Other games I would like to mention are Super Meat Boy, Mass Effect 2.

Also, WOW Cataclysm is an expansion.
