Super Meat Boy or VVVVVV. They're both really fun, expertly designed, and you will have your behind handed to you many, many times over.

Red Dead Redemption. I has a great story, characters, graphics, music, you know all of the gaming buzz words. But the one thing that this game has that I didn't even know a game could have is heart. It's really hard to explain but it really does have a living, beating heart.

Alpha Protocol. I don't care what people say. I loved that damn game, I've played through the thing nine times at this point.
It wasn't as good as it could've been but I liked it also! And Singularity (still need to finish this one though)! Shame Alpha Protocol won't get a sequel. :(

Probably mass effect 2

I loved the turnaround from mass effect, they fixed just about every single problem the first had and turned into one of the best sequels I've ever played.

you can tell they tried really hard on this one, and it shows.

Red dead redemption for a close second.
the game play is pretty good and the story is fantastic, but I'm just not a huge fan of the euphoria engine.

Until GOTY time came around, I didn't actually realize how shitty this year was for gaming... The only games that came out this year that held my interest were Skate 3, Shaun White Skateboarding, BioShock 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, Metro 2033, Fallout: New Vegas, and some indie titles.

As for GOTY, I'd probably say Metro 2033, just because it wasn't a sequel. Call of Pripyat was amazing, and Skate 3 greatly improved over Skate 2. New Vegas was pretty bad compared to Fallout 3, BioShock 2 would have been up there if it didn't crash 30 times while getting through the campaign, and I still haven't played much of Shaun White.

Hopefully next year will be better with Homefront, Red Orchestra 2, Portal 2, RAGE, BulletStorm, and LittleBigPlanet 2.

Its close between ME2 and RDR but, im gunna go for RDR, i despised the end of the game, but up until that point it was a great game, ME2 did feel any more enjoyable than ME, also the flaws from ME were not dealt with, just removed or replaced with something worse/no better.

Red Dead Redemption for me. Never have really played a great western game until then (everything beforehand was good, but nothing like RDR). I think it wins over the other games because of its great story, and how immersive it could be at times. Mass Effect 2 comes in at a close second though.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Single player improved AC2's formula (AC2 was one of my 09 GOTY). Fun missions despite annoying 'full synch' missions, good characters for the most part, the combat is actually fun now, the story in the future is starting to pick up, and (IMO) the best multiplayer of the year.

Runner up: Red Dead Redemption

Mass Effect 2 and Valkaria Chronicles 2 are very close, but I'll go with Valkaria since it is significantly more underrated.

Heavy Rain, hands down.

Alpha Protocol could maaaaybe make it here if it had actually delivered a stealth game like it promised. Instead, the best strategy is to shoot everything in the face with a large gun. Sigh. Or maybe I just didn't get far enough into the game. I'm so sad that it was so disappointing. "Stealth RPG" sounded amazing.

I'm going to be unbelievably original here and go with Mass Effect 2. It took everything that was good with Mass Effect 1 and made it better.

Either Mass Effect 2 or Assassin's Creed 2, leaning more toward ME though. I'll be pissed if Black Ops wins. Yes, it sold a crap load of copies, but a game you can beat in less than a day should not win.

This is a tough call.

Fallout New Vegas and COD: Black ops both have the advantage of following on from previous GOTY's (Fallout 3 and COD:MW1/2)

Problem is, neither of them were particularly great...

New Vegas was fun in it's own way but riddled with crashes/errors and was pretty much a re-skinning of FO:3.
Black Ops was... honestly not that great at all in my eyes. Previous COD games did things better, there wasn't anything "black ops" about the game in the slightest which was what I was looking forward to. Instead, when I picked up Mafia 2 for half price, that seemed like a better "black ops" sort of game. There was missions where you had to sneak and you would fail if you got caught. Whenever information about what you had previously dont was brought up you flat out denied any knowledge of it. Though honestly Mafia 2 was 'good' but had potential to be better (a lot better).

Honestly, I don't have a GOTY sadly. Each game was 'good, but not good enough'

Assassins Creed Brotherhood, it was Fallout but it disappointed me with all the glitches, invisible walls and such. If you're going to make a game take pride in it and take your time. =S
