I've never bought or pre-ordered as many game as I have this past year and it's been a splendid year in my opinion. I mean c'mon... Skyrim? NHL 12? Ass Cream: Revelations? This year has been great for me.

What's the point of a thread where every post is the exact same list?

Here's what I bought this year and played:

Baron Wittard: Nemesis of Ragnarok
Last Half of Darkness: Society of the Serpent Moon
From Dust
Stacking
Gray Matter
Gemini Rue
Book of Unwritten Tales
Portal 2
Limbo

Arkham City was shit. There were a few other sucky games: Black Mirror 3, The Next Big Thing, Dragon Age 2 but luckily I didn't buy them

But a pretty good year overall

Games I've enjoyed that have come out this year (I am going through these by time I last played them on Xbox):

Modern Warfare 3
Skyrim
Sonic Generations
Gears Of War 3
Alice: Madness Returns
Portal 2
Fruit Ninja Kinect (XBLA)
Marvel vs Capcom 3
Driver: San Francisco
Dead Space 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Dragon Age 2
LA Noire

and I still plan to play Batman: Arkham City, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Saints Row: The Third, Assassin's Creed: Revelations and Rayman: Origins somehow

So, yeah, a pretty good year in my opinion.

Everyone's forgetting Mortal Kombat, which is one of the best things to come out this year imo.

On top of that, here's a list just like everyone else posted:

Skyrim
Rayman Origins
LA Noire (I was disappointed by this one, but I'm still glad it exists)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Sonic Generations

There's lots of fun to be had out of 2011's releases. A great year for gaming.

Portal 2, L.A, Noire, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Skyrim, Arkham City and Skyward Sword were all good--Portal 2 in particular--and on the indie side, Limbo and the Minecraft Alpha keep giving.

. . .So not a bad year in total, though it's no 1998.
Add Dark Souls, Witcher 2, Rayman: Origins, and another excellent Forza game and you've got a great set of releases.

You know it's a good year when you have no idea what'll be nominated for GOTY because so many great games came out. :)
You're right about all of those. If 2011 had one drawback, it's that it was--well--2011: the best it could achieve was to be a great "formal" year, which means in essence to have delivered a bunch of titles whose generic superiority was predictable. This humdrum situation will likely persist, even amongst great games, until an impending "indie revolution" of sorts occurs, and dismantles our big-budge critical biases.

Pokemon Black/White, Portal 2, Human Revolution, (finished) Minecraft and Sonic Generations would like a word with you, OP. And most likely several others besides that I haven't gotten around to playing yet.

It's the same as every year, a huge pile of games and about 2% of them worth mentioning and 1% worth playing.

I am happy for the indie scene tho they are getting bigger then ever.

You know, BF3 is a sequel to BF2, not BFBC2, and a lot of the BF2 veterans complain about the maps not being large enough. I personally feel they hit a good balance, and I'm enjoying it so far. I'm just waiting for them to release the full destruction engine with the BtK DLC.

There have been disappointments this year; DN:F, DA2 and a couple of other games.

Some disappointment in the delaying of ME3 so that Kinect voice stuff could be put in :/

A little disappointed that Skyrim isn't as big as I'd originally thought it would be, but I'm still impressed by its scale.

2011 has been a good year for gaming, and there are still some things that have yet to come out. Personally though, the late 2011 early 2012 lineup looks far better than the 2011 pure lineup, and now I can't wait till next year.

Wow, OP is hard to please...

OT: Dead Space 2, Deus Ex, and Gears of War 3!? What more does anyone need out of a gaming year? Due to those games and a few others (Skyward Sword!, Batman, Portal 2, ), I'd say it was a pretty damn good year.
Not so much hard to please, Just when you have been looking forward to some games and you have got so hyped; i.e. brink, homefront & BF3. And then to get a smack in the face when you don't like them. it hurts so much more.

For games that interest me, it's been a pretty good year.

Having a quick glance at the new additions to my collection:
Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Batman: Arkham City
Battlefield 3
Crysis 2
Dark Souls
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Gears of War3
inFamous 2
Pokémon Black
Saint's Row: The Third
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

Then the downloaded titles (what I can remember)

Bastion
From Dust
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
Renegade Ops
Terraria

I haven't even bought all the games that I want yet - can't justify it when I still haven't finished all of the above.

I have no complaints.

Am I the only one who really enjoyed Killzone 3? It was so pretty... And the Helghast are some of the coolest villains in the world of gaming IMO. I poured like a couple of days game time into the multiplayer as well, so that's gotta count for something. It's probably not game of the year material, but it was enjoyable for me.

Battlefield 3 disappointed me personally quite a lot this year. Coming from a Bad Company background I somewhat expected to to be more like that, on bigger maps with more vehicles. However, I think they made it a little too big maps. It doesn't have the same pace for me. Admittedly that's a personal preference but it's still game breaking for me at least.
I find this part hilarious, mostly because it means that Dice failed to meet expectations on both fronts of their fanbase. Myself coming from Battlefield 2, I found the maps in BF3 too small and worse of all, cramped. Of all the nine maps I only see two maps as something that could be put in Battlefield 2 and that is Caspian Border and to some extent, Noshahr Canals.

Battlefield 3 is good game but it fell short because it was developed for two different plattforms within too little time.
