Ah the Oscars... why do I give a shit? Oh wait I don't.

The Kings speech won best picture, best director, best actor, and best original screenplay for those who feel like raging.

I hope you will all join me.
We are not part of the Hollywood elite and so Oscar doesn't give half a shit about us.

Oh what the fuck.

And Hailee Steinfeld didn't win best supporting actress either.

Jesus fuck.

Utterly formulaic movie wins utterly predictable awards show. Whoop de doo.

Though I did find it amusing that all the people who won for Inception (sound design/editing, etc.), their very first words of thanks were to Christopher Nolan, crediting him as being the genius and architect of the entire movie. All the ideas were his, they just made it happen.

What I basically heard was "Sorry you got snubbed man, we know you deserve all of this credit instead."

Stupid Academy, preferring your safe, garden-variety movies instead of incredible and unique ones (Black Swan, Social Network, Inception, etc.).

Animation this year is likely a toss-up, all of the contenders were very competent this year. Following the example of Pixar is resulting in some pretty decent films.

Individually no, collectively yes. We must band together!
Only once it's Oscar material will Hollywood feel comfortable making Explosion: The movie.

Ugh... the King's Speech was a good movie. I enjoyed watching it and felt like I learned a lot from it. But it was not the best movie to come out last year. But then again, Best Picture doesn't mean "best movie." It's really a shame.

She was good, but did you see the Fighter? I personally think Melissa Leo deserved it. She really was fantastic and played her character perfectly. The Fighter had some of the best acting I've seen in a while. Shame the movie itself wasn't that great.

And again, Alice in Wonderland was a gorgeous movie. We really didn't have an "Avatar" this year. But True Grit had better costumes. Even King's Speech had better costumes.

I must admit that I was already dissapointed with this year's results as soon as I found out that Tron: Legacy didn't even get a nod for best original score. Daft Punk's music, especially in the Tron setting, made it the best soundtrack I have ever heard
My feelings too. I was sure it will at least be nominated, you know, just to acknowledge its marvellous existence. But then again, I don't see Oscar-people as people who would generally even consider something like Daft Punk to "spoil" the sanctity of Oscars. But you'd have to be deaf not to be engaged in the movie with that soundtrack. It literally almost stole the show. What comforts me is the belief that Daft Punk doesn't really care about whether they have the Oscar or not. But it was extremely mean not to even nominate the guys.

Wins that I'm glad about are Natalie Portman and Christian Bale. I'm really happy for them because I love them both as actors. I've yet to watch The King's Speech so I can't really say anything, but it IS kinda obvious that it was an Oscar bait movie, just like MovieBob said. I'm sad that Inception won only some non-important awards; I think it was worthy of getting at least for the original screenplay.

why would anyone still care about these things? I'm not trolling here, at least i'm trying not to.

A Movie that got a lot of good Oscars isn't always a good movie. I would go so far to say that the Oscar doesn't have anything to do with the Quality of a movie.

The whole whole thing is a pompous ceremony where People award Trophies to movies because they like them. Not because there is this group of People who try to judge the Qualities of a movie with some system of criteria which was deemed to fit best.

They award Oscars sometimes because they feel this and that person should have one and didn't get one last year.

Some Movies will not even be nominated because they come from a certain genre. And that's just total BS. Even the earliest Game magazines had different Critics test different Games because someone who likes sportsgames may be biased against RPGs.

The Academy doesn't have that. They don't like a genre of movies, those movies wont get oscars.

It comes to a Point where you can see "Oscar fishing" Movies, specifically made to get Oscars. Film Critics predict that certain People will get Oscars because they are well liked in the industry.

About time we stopped caring about that. Maybe the industry will eventually stop this blatant self indulgence and maybe they stop dragging the Academy around.

That post was written before the show, hon. These are just listings of the nominees, not the winners ;-)
I know, I was just commenting that Alice in Wonderland actually won something...
