Oh man I forgot Mass Effect 3 was coming out later in the year!

My list thus far;

Mass Effect 3
Bulletstorm
Brink
Killzone 3
Portal 2
Warhammer 40k; Space Marine
inFamous 2
Uncharted 3

Then there's also (assuming they come out this year);

Last Guardian
Aliens; Colonial Marines
Final Fantasy versus 13 (maybe)

And if I happen to suddenly get enough money to get a decent pc;

Dungeons
Achron
Guild Wars 2

Possibly TESV:S, haven't really looked into it yet.
Fable 3 remade to be less bull-shitty. (*Crying sad sad tears*)

The three on my must-buy list are:

- Brink
- Mass Effect 3
- Dragon Age 2

I'll probably also get Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I'm unfamiliar with Deus Ex, but I've heard too many positive things to not consider getting it.

Deadspace 2 (bought)
Dawn of War 2 Retribution (preordered)
Dragon Age 2 (preordered)
Shogun Total War 2 (preordered)
Sims Medieval (curious, preordered)
Two Worlds 2 (waiting for reviews)
Witcher 2 (preordered CE like the fist of the north star)
Earthrise (fantastic MMO, bought)
TERA Online (day one purchase)
Guild Wars 2 (waiting for CE, will preorder like fist of north star double)
Mass Effect 3 (waiting for CE)

Above are the ones I wouldn't go without no matter what. This year is looking pretty expensive, but so much better than 2010, which was pretty barren except for ME2 (If you avoid Obsidian like the plague it was).

Also, it's the year of the PC baby. There's a tonne of exclusives I haven't listed which I may yet buy. Can't wait.

- Guild Wars 2
- Mass Effect 2
- BRINK
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution
- The Witcher 2

Funny how most of these are some form of RPG. Guess I'm getting tired of the FPS genre.

May I ask why you pre-order games that have virtually zero chance of selling out on even day one?

I mean it made sense back in N64 days of expensive cartridges but as far as I know most of those pre-orders don't come with any perks (like minecraft's beta access), most of those lack even a 10% discount and the 10% discount usually continues into the first week a bit.

This is just me but I never pre-order, I always consider it worth while waiting a week to check the reviews and general buzz. Then if it isn't ground breaking I wait till it is on sale. I've been burned too many times by "It's gotta be good" like GT5 and MGS2.

A few other games are on my radar, like Skyrim, but the above are the big hitters for me.

For me the most anticipated game of 2011 is Heroes of Might and Magic 6! I've been waiting 4 years for this sequel.

I've got quite a list this year:

-Portal 2
-True Crime: Hong Kong
-Batman: Arkham City
-Brink
-Dues Ex: Human Revolution
-Half Life 2: Episode 3 (It's coming. Gabe Newell said that there's going to be three surprises this year, and Episode 3's a surprise they can't hold back any longer)

Sure. In the case of sequels to games the prequel of which I already own, like Dawn of War 2, ME3, DA2 and so on, it's an easy decision and hopefully makes sense. With games like the Witcher 2, I'm willing to take the leap because the CE is unlikely to be around when I'm able to make an informed decision.

How to explain the rest? Well.. Put it this way, I preordered Dragon Age 1 and loved it, same with Deadspace and the first Mass Effect. But I didn't buy Two Worlds (the original). I just didn't- and that turned out to be the right move. I've made what I deem to be pretty good decisions based on whatever media is available regarding a game before its release, and I've avoided the real lemons just by intuition. I would argue that it's possible to know a bad game when you see it, sometimes no matter how it's spun.

You'll notice I'm waiting for a review of Two Worlds 2!

Seems reasonable enough, though I've never found myself in a situation where I want to buy a game and simply no copies are available, maybe that's the efficiency of Southern England's retail industry, maybe because most of my PC purchases are on steam sales.

Though it think the biggest reason I never pre-order is I just can't afford games when they are new and anyway, I am still "lagging behind" in gaming. I mean I have not finished Dead Space yet, so why buy Dead Space 2? I wouldn't play it till I'd finished the 1st one, and by that time Dead Space 2 may very well be reduced in price or on sale (very likely on steam).

Yeah Steam sales are a huge one, I never want to buy at launch as I know huge steam sales are never far off. But it's little worry, I have bought SO MANY games on Steam that I just have not had time to play and complete them all.

I have also noted a disturbing tend, especially on PC but increasingly on consoles of day-one bugs that take several weeks to get ironed out. Especially when it comes to multiplayer.

I kinda like arriving fashionably late to big multiplayer games, it's long enough for people to discover strategies and post youtube guides. Have you seen Xbox Ahoy's coverage of Black Ops weapons?

Even if you don't care about black ops you should watch his vids as quite frankly they are so excellently done, he has the natural talent for editing and great voice for narration. A commenter said it best, you feel like an MI6 agent being briefed for a mission watching his vids.
