Firefall, Hawken, Natural Selection 2, Planetside 2, Retro Blazer, Tribes Ascend, possibly Blacklight Retribution. Plus multiplatform releases like Bioshock: Infinite. I may never have to buy another game after 2012! Year of the decade, all decades? I think so! What do you think?

That bold there is pretty exciting, I remember struggling playing Planetside on US servers with a ping around 300. I hope there is some way they can throw an Oceania based server or two our way. Looks good from the screenies I've seen too.

PlanetSide 2 might be coming out this year. Only real MMOFPS in my book. I remember flying over battles, watching tracer fire going back and forth across the terrain between several dozen players on each side. With 2004 hardware, sometimes it was a slideshow when there was like 100 guys on your screen.

PlanetSide was like 15 years ahead of it's time, because they still haven't made a proper MMOFPS. The shooter didn't offer great mechanics, fast TTKs or twitchy, fast-paced, run n' gun style that dominated those days. It had wonky Client Side Hit Detection, people who ran with 500+ms pings who warped all over the place, but god damn it was absolutely amazing.

If you missed it, that's a damn shame.

Every year someone looks at the release schedule and proclaims "Year X is going to be the best year for genre Y." This is no different to last January when people were harping on about MW3 and BF3 and other acronym related games. Sorry, but it's true

However Planetside 2 does look amazing...

Meh, Borderlands 2 is due in June so I am a happy bunny. Especially if they have this guy [http://www.entertainmentcocktail.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/borderlands-2-bandit-wallpaper1.jpg] as a playable class with a little attack Skag as his ability.

And why is it every year is THE BEST YEAR EVER for everything? Im pretty sure 2012 will be average at best.

Given the nature of games development and the fact that usually the tools and techniques evolve throughout the course of a year, it is quite obvious that every year better games are released.
Any already established IP or any game by an established developer is easily expected to be "good", as well, leading to the belief of the games-to-come being better than previous incarnations, and as such aiding this "year X is going to be the best year for genre Y." idea.

Not actually interested in any of those. I'm going for Bishock: Infinite, Borderlands 2, The Darkness 2, Mass Effect 3 and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Wow, I just realised that bar Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm, all my most wanted games of 2012 are shooters.

EDIT: I guess there's also Tomb Raider, but Overstrike is likely to be a shooter.

The only FPS available to PC this year im interested in as of yet is Borderlands 2.

And people would happily call 2013 the best year ever for PC shooters if Valve finally did Half Life 3/Episode 3.

It was, but then release dates for known FPS's in the works all landed themselves in 2012. Theres decidedly more of them than there was in Shooter Season 2011.

Hawken, possibly the first game to accommodate the color blind, it's a crucial step towards raising awareness and providing a much needed service, I applaud you devs for such thoughtfulness and bravery.
