Also yes, some of the ones you listed like Blacklight Retribution will undoubtedly suck, and you are forgetting "some" e.g. Counter Strike: GO, Planetside 2, ARMA 3, potentially STALKER 2

No, Pray 2 is a shooter set in the era of Crusades where you pray that your enemies will get shot. The developers simply added the number 2 to make it seem like it was a part of a series to make suer people would buy it because the first game had to be good if they're making a sequel then next year Pray will be released so they make people buy it simply to see what led up to Pray 2's story. Or it could be that it's supposed to be Prey 2...

Natural Selection was pretty damn amazing so I've been waiting years for NS2. Kind of interested in Hawken to some extent, and curious to see how Tribes turns out because, well, it's fucking Tribes. I've also gotten a little more interested in Bioshock Infinite since the 1999 mode was announced, but I'll have to wait and see. I really didn't care at all before that announcement, so I'm still a bit hesitant to get excited.

But yeah, NS2 is pretty much the only game that I've flat out decided to buy without thinking twice.

It's the best year based on the number of promising releases. The ones I and some others listed do something I haven't seen before or haven't seen in a long time, and over five in one year doing what I said is the most I've personally seen. They're not another "brown 'n' bloom realistic military shooter". That's reason enough to get excited. The modern industry isn't as bad as some people think?

Also, how powerful are the bought weapons in Blacklight Retribution? I saw gameplay with default weapons and it looks like Battlefield 2142: Pure Infantry Edition. Are these weapons capable of ending fights as soon as one person sees the other? Because then it's just Call of Duty: Future Warfare.

PlanetSide 2 might be coming out this year. Only real MMOFPS in my book. I remember flying over battles, watching tracer fire going back and forth across the terrain between several dozen players on each side. With 2004 hardware, sometimes it was a slideshow when there was like 100 guys on your screen.

PlanetSide was like 15 years ahead of it's time, because they still haven't made a proper MMOFPS. The shooter didn't offer great mechanics, fast TTKs or twitchy, fast-paced, run n' gun style that dominated those days. It had wonky Client Side Hit Detection, people who ran with 500+ms pings who warped all over the place, but god damn it was absolutely amazing.

If you missed it, that's a damn shame.

I missed it, and it sounds like I won't be going back to it, but you've gotten me excited about this sequel, because if they can just replicate that with modern tech so it doesn't glitch then it would be quite the experience.

Not sure what to think about that; I hope it doesn't turn into Pay2Win or some sort of Grindfest, but at the same time...I'm unsure of what other payment option it could use to prevent either of those.

If it turns out to be neither (doubtful) I might look into it. I adored Tribes 1, 2 and even Vengeance.
