2012
so for the second time in my life im told the worlds going to end, it perplexes me. true or untrue it really puts life into perspective, that whether it comes in 2012 or 6 billion years from now this world isnt endless, but life is. life perseveres no matter what. it has for billions of years and it will continue for eternity. then theres time, time we all know what it is but can we describe it if somebody never had time never knew it could we explain what it was to them. for some reason time doesnt feel so light, so endless, as if it was more important as if every hour now counted more had more weight each time. what if that day does come the fateful December 21st 2012 every person knowing the heavyness that surrounds them the tense air, that sense that at any moment everything they know could cease to exist. but more importantly what if December 22nd comes, will we learn anything from our brush with death. Y2K didnt teach us anything, to add value to time, to appreciate it more and put more weight on our actions, our consequences as it relates to time. they say everybody who has stared death in the eye feels a sense of urgency to make the time they do have left the best it could be. maybe all of us should be that way, whether the end comes or not.

ya I've heard a lot about that too and it's scary how many people believe it because personally i think it won't happen but i think like you said maybe we should start taking things a bit into perspective and learn from what has happened

It just so happens that I think that the best way to spend my life is playing games and talking a lot. That's mostly what I've been doing. If the world ends, I'll be fine with that.

There goes the PS4 and 720.

I don't believe this will happen but I do know one that does but even he doesn't let it change his life.

I'd just like to say the reason Y2k never happened was because of the bug fixing, it's not the same.
Not that I believe the world will end in 2012, it wont.

So...I don't get it are we supposed to be discussing the end of the world in 2012, or are we supposed to be answering your preachings on time saving? Not wanting to sound like a complete jackarse, but I'm a little confused as to the purpose of this thread.

Anyway, no I don't think the world will simply seize to function when the clock strikes 12 midnight in 2012. The whole concept that the world will simply end and all forms of life will just die in one instant gathered from some old book that's been rewritten a thousand times on a calender that's been revised a quite a few times as well is dumb, for a lack of a better word.

As to the 'cherish the moment' thing, yes I agree. We should just stop and think about what we are doing sometimes and enjoy life, but we should also look to the future with optimism and be happy with ourselves. That's what's most important to me. Woah I think I preached just now, damn I was hoping not to do that.

im not sure really, i thought something and i put it on paper, or thread to see what people would make of it. i personally dont really believe in it the only scientific thing that ive heard about it is that maybe the polarity of the earth will be reversed.

2012? That prediction by Aztecs, which is beleived by Christians, and was first brought up in what, America?
There's everything wrong when it comes to that so called "prediction". Why would Christians beleive what Aztecs predicted? And how would they get the year 2012? Anyone remember Y2K? Wasn't that also only beleived by America? (No? yes?)
Point is, America loves negativity and the idea of the apocolypse, it's tools for making people convert to Christianity.

Well the Aztecs did predict the year there civilization get's demolished

Soooo uh... I haven't read much about this whole world ending thing, but any mention of how it's gonna end?

My money's on aliens.

Besides, it wouldn't be the worst way for the world to end. The only time you ever see humans put their petty differences aside and forget about borders / colors / religious disagreements / etc, is when there's a common enemy uniting them.

I mean, just look at gangs.

They kill each other cause they're from different streets, or cities.
They get put into jail, where people commonly separate themselves into groups depending on ethnicity. Gang colors don't matter anymore.
Then if a war breaks out. Suddenly everyone's bonded under the same flag. As soldiers, we don't care what background the guy covering our back is from, as long as he's wearing the same uniform.

The next step up from "national" is "global", so as crazy as it sounds, maybe if something like a global crisis were to happen, it'd be what humanity needs in order to stop putting such emphasis on the trivial things we like to fight over.

And I'm starting to rant, so I'm shutting up now...

First it was the LHC now it's this, is there an emo movement on these boards or something?
The world is not going to end(not now anyways for those who were going to be dicks about my wording)

EDIT: I live every day to its fullest already, if you live every day to its fullest just because the end of the world is near then you've wasted alot of time and it says alot about you.

Eh, just people putting a negative twist on something that the Mayan's saw as a joyous time. It's supposed to be the end of the Great Cycle.

"For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle? says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies in Crystal River, Fla. To render Dec. 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is ?a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in.?

There's other sites that discuss it, but you get the idea.

Just more "the sky is falling!" nonsense made to capitalize on people's fear of mortality.

How is it that people in this forum get put on probation for trying to compare the Jedi and Master Chief, but when someone makes a post insulting an entire culture and an entirely seperate religion based on complete fucking ignorance there is no response?

It's weird, really... and seems to happen a lot... fucking hypocritical is what it is...

I have a new avatar? Would it be Father Grigori, by any chance? This is important.
