Bah, I say, bah!

It doesn't matter that several civilizations have predicted 2012 == the end of it all. Alot of people thought 2000 would be it. The fact is, these 'primitive' cultures were good at astronomy and saw the stars and space in general as some ethereal realm where the gods normally were.

For example, shortly before the invasion of England, circa 1040 AD, the sighting of Haley's Comet was heralded as a omen of disaster for the English king. And guess what? It was! He was defeated at the battle of Hastings, and his throne was taken by William the Conqueror.

Does this mean the medieval English, my own country men, had mystic powers? Hell no, they just linked the heavens to the Earth by way of lucky prediction.

So, the Aztecs, the Mayans, and whoever else predicted the end date probably linked the end with an Astronomical event that will occur in 2012. Does this mean the world will end? Probably not, although who knows the way the world is going now. India and Pakistan, both nuclear powers, are fighting each other like school boys in a playground, and economic troubles plus environment spell trouble for awhile to come.

Does this mean the Mayans knew something about this future? Unlikely and improbable. Not impossible, but the odds are like getting struck by lightning whilst winning the jackpot on the lottery. Lets remember: these people believed in human sacrifice as a way of chatting and/or bribing the gods. They weren't flawless fonts of knowledge.

I think Y2K was easier to overlook, it could have been a human created problem which would have been fixed by humans.
Unexplainable apocalypse scares people more, "why is this happening" "what did we ever do to anyone (be it god or satan or whoever)".
I don't really believe it will come to pass but if it will i'm sure we'll be hearing about it more and more as we get closer.

Someone said that Nostradamus predicted the world would end in 2006.
I do think that apocalyptic visions are best left in fantasy and sci-fi.

First off: we, as a human race, destroy the Earth. We can make a huge mess out of it, but can't destroy it.

Second: We cannot know the exact time the world will end. We just can't.

Third: So what if the world does end? Is life on this piece of rock floating through space really worth anything?

Fourth: Why 2012? What is so special about that number? 1st it was 2000 then it was 6/6/06 and now it's 2012? What the hell??

honestly the ppl who believe the 2012 thing have brain's made of cake.

and another thing i hate is all my fellow christian retards saying "oh the mayan's said it would end 2012"

after that i have to be quick to biff them on their stupid cake like skulls and say
"but my fellow brick head, in the bible it says that no one will know the time or the date and that only God knows when it will be.... and just as a side note the mayan civilisation use to sacrefice people to the sun to keep it moving, are you really going to listen to bigger brickheads than yourself?"

Note: the mayan callender ending is just the end of a cycle and the callender is ment to go back to 350 days.... that is all
