The whole end of the world still is a pile of crap. But Many, many people believe it will happen on December 21st, 2012. I'm worried about what others may do. On December 20th, there may be mass suicides, people killing as many as they can, thinking there will be no consequence since everyone will die anyway, or more. On top of that, it'll be the last year of Obama's term and if things keep getting crazy in America like it has been, people may be violent riots could start.(Im not saying hes good or bad, but people here in America are nuts)Anyone else here worried what may happen despite the world not blowing up?

2012 is such BS. Our calender ends in december. In the future people are not going to dig it up and think "HOLY SHIT THE WORLDS GOING TO END NEXT DECEMBER" they think "These guys had a calender of 12 months".

Now we dig up a calender and think "OMG A CALNDER ENDED IN AN ANCIENT CULTURE ITS THE END OF THE WORLD!" Maybe they needed a new calender every so often (very far apart, they had a VERY long calender) Maybe the guy writing it got shit bored, or died of some ancient disease or old age. Their is no evidence to match the end of the myan calender to the end of the world.

Y2K didnt ruin society that much, these nutters mostly put on their tin foil hats and hide in their bomb shelters, i think we are gonna be ok. My girlfriend pointed this out a while back and i did agree that it may cause civil unrest. How ironic that the rumor of our world ending might cause us to end our own world. Wouldnt that be funny as on the day our smoking ruin of a world says "Crap it didnt happen". Cults are more mass suicide than murdery so i think taking idiots out of the world is a plus. I wouldnt worry about it.

Also the planets alligning does not mean polar shift. Why would it? Someone cite scientific evidence as WHY the planets aligning has ANYTHING to do with our magentic poles. Its retarded. So when a scientist who knows anything about shit says "If the poles shifted the world would end" Idiots add 2 and 2 to make 5 and think them connected. You get your pay/benefits before the end of the world, then when it does end it doesn't matter. When it doesn't end thats when you are hosed.

As far as Y2K they will be nothing alike, mostly cause Y2K bug was a real thing. The systems that where affected by it knew nearly a decade before hand and patches and work arounds where created during all that time. The media simply blew it out of proportion cause they didn't have anything else more exciting to blow out of proportion.

Well actually we HAVE had one "death" so far about this kind of end of the world drama. There was a family (I forget where) that were SO terrified of the "human influence" on global warming that they became CONVINCED that the ONLY OPTION LEFT was to kill their children and themselves. They shoot their kids (the infant survives the revovler shot to the chest btw . . . yes . . . THE INFANT SURVIVES THE SHOT TO THE CHEST, . . . SHOT TO THE CHEST . . . INFANFT) and then shoot each other leaving notes depicting their reasons being that they "knew" that humans were going to destroy the earth by global warming and greenhouse gasses and so because of that the only option left was murder/suicide.

The problem with this whole end of the mayan calender is the assumption they stopped there because that's the end of the world. I reckon they just decided they had enough to be getting on with, and some other bugger could do some more a few centuries down the line.

That's exactly my theory. The world isn't going to end on that day; the slave they had locked up in a dank cave finally got fed up with chiseling out the calendar and made up some divine vision story.
