Actually, it is a conversation we've had. XD

We decided that we're going to spend as much time together on that day as we can on the off chance that is is actually the end of the world. If it's not, it's not like it would be a wasted day or anything.

Probably have a party, I'll take an excuse to have one. Either that or join in on the inevitable riots. You have to admit that recent events haven't exactly discouraged those who think it'll happen.

The same thing that I did during 6/6/06 and Y2K, completely forget about it until I hear it mentioned by some contrite doom-sayers several days later. Then laugh.

Don't really believe the world will end, but if it involves an astronomical object hurdling towards Earth that is clearly visible, and if chances are we won't survive, I'll just go outside, pull out my lawn chair, and ask my companions if they wish to come join me. If theirs an exact time we'll all die, or when all electronics go haywire, I'll try to sync up a song set up to end exactly on that time, still debating which song I might choose.
We'll just have to see what 2028 brings then.

But I cannot lend validity to any self-predicted doom.

Yeah, no. Nothing's happening. First of all, I doubt some ancient civilization could predict the end of the world when they couldn't predict their people being conquered by the Spanish. Secondly, it's just the end of a cycle. It restarts, just like our calendars. Finally, it doesn't even end in 2012. It's actually 2220. this question has been posed probably infinitely, asked as soon as we evolved the ability to conceive death. some ideas to consider for these end of the world philosophies.

1. what prophecy is not self fulfilled to some extent?
2. what time zone will the end go by?
3. statistics, how many times have people predicted the end of the world or used it in some way?

the end of the world will not come about by some huge event predicted by ancient society, it will come about by peoples inability to use reason or understanding damning us all with ignorance and death instead of understanding and life

Not really planning on doing anything special. Might wrap a last few Christmas presents but that'd probably be it.

I like to look at it this way.

If the world doesn't end, I might be able to take advantage of people who believe it will.

If it does, I get to see the end of the world.

Either way, I'm no worse off than anyone else.

I'll celebrate the occasion by counting down to midnight, at which point I'll be able to mock all of the people who thought that the world was going to end and make them feel stupid. Yeah, I know that it's awfully awful and vindictive, but whatever. Besides, it's the safest attitude to have: if I'm right, then the world doesn't end and I get to be proven right. If I'm wrong, the world ends, everybody dies, and nobody can say 'I told you so.' No matter what, I win (except I the scenario where I die alongside everyone else on the planet).

I will watch the stars thinking about how people thought that the world would end...well,No, I will maybe think about how the mayacalender will go to the next calender...like how we do every year and maybe have a party but I never plan that far ahead.

I already made a bet with someone that the world won't end. It's a win/win scenario for me. If I'm right, I get money, if he's right, he's not going to be there to collect.
