Hey, at least you dont get ripped off when you allowed to drink. Seriously, the price of drink here (Ireland) is bullshit.
Ireland? The country that the rest of the world rips on for being drunk? My god!

Where I am, everyone in my year (Year 10, so 14-15) except me and a few others drink a lot. I really don't like alcohol, probably because my mum used to stink of it when she brought home a different bloke every weekend... also I don't like the idea of not being in total control of myself. 21 is a bit harsh isn't it? Won't it be really hyped from 19-20 so they would drink far too much?

Yeah 21 is stupid, i mean how many 18 year olds can't get alcohol from somewhere? And all the higher age does is isolate the young people from more experience drinks who might keep them from the worst of excess. Instead you're dropped in the deep end, normally down the park or some other unsafe place. And you slowly learn, through binging, your limits. I prefer the more relaxed attitude on the continent.

Surprising, isint it? Thats why I dont drink in pubs. ?20 will get you 4 pints. Thats not even a quite night out, thats just a waste of money.

Altough the government is doing something about it. Companys arent allowed to raise the price of drink any higher, which is really going to help. [/sarcasm]

I'm a UK Student going to study abroad in Maryland next year. I'll be 20. I'm a bartender here in the UK, and have been allowed to drink for two years. It'll be odd...

I'm not a binge drinker, and I'm sure I can go a year without alcohol. What are laws about entry to clubs and pubs etc.? Not that I'm a big clubber but I like relaxing in pubs and bars with friends. Am I going to get ID'd on the door?

its 19 in Canada (Except Quebec where it is 18). And I find THAT high! lol I suppose it has to do with the fact that I'm turning 18 in April, and I don't live in Quebec...

Just cross a border if you want to drink sooner. In Canada, the beer is better, and you can drink "legally" at 19.

in the UK you can drink legally at 18, and even 16 (with a meal and the landlords' consent). that and we have Real Ales, Perry, Pear Cider, and all sorts of awesome stuff.

but that doesn't mean you can all come over here, cos we totally have dibs on this island, and no yankee teens are gonna come over here and steal our delicious Beer (that's Beer as WE would understand it, not your pisswater excuse for lager)
