Both the Elite Force games are okay, though the first is arguably better than the second.

Another good one to find is Star Trek: Bridge Commander. While playing captain might seem boring, it's not (There's an option to fly the ship in combat yourself, if that's your cup o' tea). The single player campaign is all right. The ship selection is mediocre, unless you decide to mod the game to add more ships. And the sheer selection out there is almost insane.

Star Trek: 25th anniversary and Star Trek: Judgement Rites for PC were both good trek games. Of course, nobody probably remembers them considering they were made in the early 1990's.

The memories. Really awesome games. The only thing that sucked was the forced shooter/ship simulator bits that were really hard.

Probably the first game I played that had a full voice cast.

Another one that I liked was A Final Unity. It was basicaly a rehash of those games, with better graphics. And the ship simulator was a bit better.
Particularly the battle at the end of 25th anniversary. Two pirate ships and the fake Enterprise(which was a match for the real one just by itself) vs. the Real Enterprise.

I had forgotten about A final Unity. That was a good one too. Had some annoying timed puzzles(the damn laser grid on the ancient captial planet was a pain) and the ship combat was annoying at time, but still a good game.

I used to play a 3rd person DS9 game that was pretty fun. You could choose like 3 different characters with different stories.

I remember that the name escapes me though.

Elite force wasnt a bad game by any means. Hell there are bits and pieces of it that blew me away. Also bits and pieces of it that made me want to throw my computer out of the window. In the end though not bad I remember playing it when I was 12ish at my dads because I could always get him to buy something if it had the name Star trek on it haha.

Yeah the elite force series was excellent. I preferred the first one though, mostly because i'm more of a Voyager fan and a TNG fan, so I enjoyed exploring and interacting with the ship and characters in the first one all that much more.

I have to ask though, an issue of a gaming mag on Trek, and no Bridge Commander article? Come on, no other game has ever put you in the captains chair so effectively.
Agreed, if my cd hadnt become so scratched from massive use i would still be playing bridge commander. I would say it was better than Elite force. Especially once you modded the game and added new ships.

they were doing it with a first-person shooter, at that point as-yet unexplored territory in Trek games.
Except for the, already mentioned, Klingon Honor Guard released in 1998.

I loved Elite Force, and the expansion as well.
Even the offline multiplayer with bots was awesome.

I hope Raven graces us with a second part. (Part 3 in the series that would be)

25th Anniversary was my favourite game when I was 13, I played the shit out of it. I remember it took me about a week to figure out the Base 17 puzzle to find out the code to enter the asteroid - also, because I got a pirated copy of the game I had none of the supplementary materials I assume were packaged with the game, and had to figure out (then memorise) where the hell I was supposed to go for my missions. I bet I could still go to the right places if I fired up that game right now.

Countless pirates and Romulan lives were lost as I systematically searched every sector in the quadrant.

I remember first playing this game. It was amazing, especially since I actually started my Star Trek watching days with Voyager (too young for TOS and not yet interested during TNG). I know many people hated that TV show but I loved the concept.
Anyway, if I remember correctly, I didn't really like the Scavengers too much at first (the group consisting of Klingons, TOS-Humans, Malons etc.), but after a while the idea grew on me.
Not a perfect game. A few of the design choices seemed off to me, even at the time (like the Starfleet grenade and rocket launchers - what?), but well deserving of its praise and one I've played several years after its release again, too.
