"Well if you don't want to sell it, why the hell did you put it on ebay?"

I suspect he took a standard glass Christmas ornament or something, indulged in some writer's embellishment, and is now charging people 250 grand for it. Really, what's the difference between this and the millions of other glass balls in the world?

I could get something exactly like that for $10 and say that it's the one there, no one would ever be able to tell the difference...
Damn you, that avatar of yours kept me buzzy for 6 minutes...

I do kind of get the price, 50 made and solid crystal and it's from a game. I mean if people are willing to dress up as people from games they may be crazy enough to buy this.

There is also that skull thing that sold for millions (I think), it was just a human skull made out of diamonds or was coated in diamonds.
Are you talking about this [http://www.cbc.ca/arts/artdesign/story/2007/08/30/hirst-skull-sold.html]?

OT: I cannot fathom the mind of anybody who would pay a quater million for a fancy hunk of crystal. I mean, it reminds me of someone who would pay hundreds of dollars for a beany baby way back when, only by several orders of magnitude more so.

The Escapist covered this already. It's lead crystal and there's only a 100 of them. Still not worth it. AT ALL.

...if you want a crystal ball, I can give you a place where you can get an acrylic 'orb' that looks IDENTICAL to that one for about £10...

Oh, I remember a quote I once heard on Pawn Shop "When someone tihnks they have something rare or expensive, it means they hae a fortune on their hands" or something along the lines.

I'd charge maybe $1,000 but he said "screw 'dat, I'm gonna multiply it by 250!"

a quarter million for a clear glass ball,,,umm ok.
I think that money would be better spent on a house, you can put up a huge down payment and have a low mortgage.

That is extortionate for something without a function, however shiny looking it maybe.
I don't think that's the point. It's the fact that it's just a ball made of glass. You can get one for under a hundred quid.

I'd pay $250...

And even that'd feel like a bit of a rip-off for a NINTENDO POWER prize.

I remember this article from a few weeks/months ago.

My apologies, I suppose I didn't catch it then, but it did look like an interesting topic.
