certain games cannot translate that well to a 3-d universe. I bring you to exhibit A: Bomberman. This game is glorious in its 2d splendor, and when translated to 3D, became very unenjoyable (spare a few bouts of bomerman 64). Another honourable mention goes out to worms. This has also been turned to 3D and it was god awful.

Of course there are plenty of other 2D games that have bridged the gap to 3D, but I really don't feel about talking about how sonic has failed repeatedly which has been talked about for years.

As long as there are still games that would still benefit from still being 2D, I don't think the genre should ever disappear.

I have definitely had more fun with 2d games in my life, but I consider myself old as hell around here (I'm almost 22). I recently downloaded Super Metroid (I own a hard copy of it too, relax) and I'm currently enjoying it more than my fancy Xbox 360 titles. Ahhhh, the good ol' days.

We all love 2D yes, but if we keep looking back we will never get anywhere in anything.

I don't know who said it first (couse I doubt that it was Yahtzee), but the potential of a game has only been improved as the technology advances.

Actually no, but that's a good idea.
Hear ye Hear ye Escapist Staff: I'm looking for a job
Spoiler: You're not getting one.

Either way, you have it all backwards and entirely wrong.. and the fears you express at the end of your.. umm piece, is entirely unfounded. Braid will never go 3D... but that's because of the way it was designed, not with some kind of inherent flaw about the 3D system. Not everyone thinks that Mega Man 9 was an "oh shit" game, it was a nostalgia kick for me in every sense of the phrase. I mean yeah, it was Nintendo Hard as fuck.. but that didn't exactly make it an amazing game, really.

There have been many great Mario & Zelda games done in 3D, and arguably some great Mega Man & Sonic ones as well (Legends & Adventures, respectably) and without it a lot of the genres that we know today would have withered and died without the advancement that 3D allowed. It's not that I hate 2D games of course, I loved Contra 4 and all the recent Castlevania games.. but eh. There are issues in the gaming industry other than 3D, which.. I don't think is hurting a thing at all.
First I'd just like to say I was joking about getting a job with the Escapist (right now anyway), considering I'm just a kid and am not actually looking for work. I would just like to stress that my point was never to say 3D was bad. I'm sorry if it came off that way but since I've grown up in the era of 3D gaming 90% of the games I own are 3D. The point I intended to make was that some series don't do well in 3D or at least, their developers are terrible at translating what made a 2D series good into a 3D world. Please keep in mind when you let out your exasperation at my terrible writing skills, that I'm in grade 9 and have never written anything like this before. Please excuse me if I sounded like a presumptious git for asking for a job here, but then again you're one to for taking me seriously. (Unless you work for the Escapist.) Cheers
