3 Reasons why not to buy an Alienware Laptop

I bought an Alienware m9700 Aurora about 9 months ago. It sucks, and I want to warn EVERYONE never to buy one.

1. Heat

This notebook gets so hot that it gave me scars on my legs. When i told Alienware about this (in one of the many times i called Customer Support) they told me about the difference between a 'Laptop' and a 'Notebook'. (I didn't know how to respond to this so i hung up)

2. Hardware Quality

In the 9 months I've had this computer, the hard drive has failed, the fan has been replaced *twice*, I've had to send it back twice, and one time an Alienware technician had to come to my house and fix a part. Not even including the BURNT A/C adapter slot and the fact whenever i turn it on now i get an infinite loading screen. (Hard drive again?)

3. Customer Service

Every time i call this place, it's some Indian dude who can hardly speak English, let alone understand the tech stuff I'm talking about. Example:

"Whenever i turn my computer on, i get stuck on an infinite loading screen. I think it might be the hard drive."

"Ahem. Did you say that you have sent this unit in before for service?"

That see-saws for about 30 minutes until he goes on his computer (wikipedia?) and figures out what is wrong, which he says is the same problem as before, when it isn't. So i send it in, get my hard drive wiped, wait about 6 days for it to be fixed, another 3 for it to come back, 3 days for WoW, CS:S, and Tabula Rasa to get installed again, and then find out the problem is happening again, and let this all happen again.

So, in short. **** you Alienware!!!

The A/C adapter itself gets incredibly hot too xD and i hate to endorse macs but for work and college stuff i would suggest a... a... *winces* Macbook. (i hate them as much as the next gamer)

That sucks dude. Good thing I was never going to buy one anyway (price)
It was a HUGE waste of $3000. I could buy a state-of-the-art desktop, and still have enough for a decent laptop.

My thread is about the Aurora M9700. Not the desktops. I can't put down something i haven't even used. And hey, maybe the other laptops from them are at least half-decent for all i know.

If I had an alienware notebook, I'd have marble plinths to place it upon whence in use and a bullet proof box to keep it safe in when I was out chastising the gardeners.
It's a lovely portable gaming rig and it burnt you because it's a beast and your legs were too puny. Or perhaps you need marble plinths.
I suppose if I had all that I'd have an iMac and be on it all the time.

No, i believe it burnt because it can't handle being on for 6-8 hrs/day.

I was considering getting one since I want a to do work on it (I'm an animator and 3D modeller). Any Laptops around that are powerful enough to handle this kinda stuff? I want to be able to work on the go, any help?

Macs might be fun but getting them to work with the average network is a nightmare. It depends on the school, but I'd check with your university or workplace before buying either model. If they're on a PC Network, every time you try to do anything with a mac you'll need to go get the tech guy.

Love my HP Laptop.

I think your computer may be desperately trying to get you to stop playing MMORPGs. It's really a benign feature designed to save your social life.

Any one else notice that Dell owns Alienware, and sells the EXACT same laptops for roughly 1/2 the price?
