Destroying civilization is difficult in practice, but the basic methods are pretty simple.

Option 1: The Mark Zuckerberg Strategy. The idea here is to identify one of the worst traits of the human species, in Zuckerberg's case vanity, and devote your life to catering too it. He has already used this strategy to, intentionally or otherwise, overthrow the government of Tunisia. If he keeps this up, he might just overthrow all third world regimes.


Option 2: The Goldman-Sachs/Greek Strategy. All you have to do here is get your hands on other people's money and be horrifically irresponsible with it. Goldman-Sachs has destroyed the United States economy with this tactic and Greece is on their way to destroying the EU with this strategy.

Option 3: The Michael Moore/Glen Beck/Adolph Hitler/Joseph Stalin/Mao Tse Tung Strategy. This is perhaps the most tried and true of the three. The idea is to use fiery oratory to turn people against each other and convince them that they need you to save them from "the enemy" then just lead them in violently exterminating them.

First round is massive air bombings. Should anyone survive that we bring in the tanks and heavy weaponry. Anyone who has extremely good fortune will then suffer the wrath of ground troops invading the housing areas.

OP, I don't see how any of your methods would destroy civilization.
In option 1, what does it matter to the rest of the world, who is in control of the third world?
In option 2, even with the sad state of the economy, the US is far from being destroyed.
In option 3, even if you do orate your way into power, and lead your nation into exterminating another, well, your nation 'wins'.

I know he doesn't really preach violence, but when I mentioned Michael Moore I had work Glen Beck in somehow so this would be perceived as far and even-handed, and make the joke work.

I don't think Glenn Beck and Michael Moore advocate extermination.

And what of Option 4: The Complacency Method? That is: Allow one society to know peace, well-being, luxury and security for a while, then murder them all while they're asleep? This happened to Greece once, it's going to happen to the Western World fairly quickly if we fail to learn from history.

Method 1: get assigned to a insane asylum, a self submition, so they do not strap you up to one of those pushy things... as you get just outside your cell.. beat the officer, take his keys, let as many free (bonus points for the big strong ones) say they are free, do this untill you get shot (asuming they use force) eventually, the people you rescued would kill a few, word of your activities would spread, causing the hippies that belive trapping insane people inside a cage is wrong, and they might try to re-act your method, eventually, this would cause riots, political colapses, and general devestation, far far down the line, you will be able to sleep peacefully in your grave, knowing that your fellow humans continued your work, and that someday, the world will break down into a slum, then ever further down the line, empty.
