Now, I effing loved 300! It was war-porn, basically. I've watched it at least 20 times.

A Cracked article 5 Embarrassing Failures History Class Turned Into Victories [http://www.cracked.com/article_19382_5-embarrassing-failures-history-class-turned-into-victories.html] lists The Battle of Thermopylae at #4 because of one interesting historical tidbit that they glossed over at the end of 300: After dealing with a little hiccup named Leonidas that charming fellow known as King Xerxes rampaged all over Greece.

It looks from the trailer like they're addressing that itsy bitsy little oversight.

I know 300 gets a lot of flack from many people but I'm curious what my fellow Escapists thought of it and think about this sequel.

I actually enjoyed 300, but that's probably because Ancient History isn't my forte (I'm more Renaissance/Reformation), so I was able to overlook all the inaccuracies.

But this looks to be quite interesting. Definitely putting it down on my list of things to see at the theater.

I'm looking forward to it. I really enjoyed 300, and this seems to be more or less like it.

Not even gonna watch the trailer. 300 was complete garbage so I have no intention of watching something within the same franchise.

I don't care that 300 was an exaggeration of the actual history since it suppose to be like that given it was based from a graphic novel. Beside I watched the actual documentries of the said battle to learn about the actual historic event and man the naval commander was such an unsung hero.

Anyway it look like in the sequel, parts of it could be the Battle of Artemisium (the naval battle that happend alongside the event of 300) which it look like Themistocles (I think that was the naval commander name?) will finally get some credits!

Still I'm abit relucdant that there was never a sequel to the 300 graphic novel so this is pretty much a cash in. Regardless I'm still going to watch it for the action fest alone!!

Great. More butchering of history by muscly dudes in leather underpants.

Can't wait.

Seriously though, I'll see it when it comes out on DVD. If it's anything like the first one it will at least be entertaining and cool to look at.

How the hell can they make a sequel? The original 300 was the story of 300 men who
DIED.
And that is literally the whole plot of the ancient story and the new film. How do those 300 men in any way link up to this new film set afterwards?
I didn't like 300 myself, the minimal art style seemed hugely contradictory to the content of huge armies smashing each other up, and the fantasy elements felt forced in for no reason.
But at least this isn't based upon an actual tale, so they can't get it wrong.

This looks utterly ridiculous, I must see it. It seems just as silly as 300, but on a bigger scale.

Also, Eva Green is in it? Doesn't seem like the kind of thing she'd do.

Loved the first one. It was big, loud, dumb, over the top of the top and I LOVED it.

I honestly have no qualms with a sequel as long as it's as crazy and awesome as the original.

So by the trailer I assume it will cover the naval battle of Salamis this time. Still i like the look of it so i might give it a look in theaters if not there always netflix.

I still laugh at all the freedom talk in the film. Yes, the Spartans, the guys who kept the Helots as a permanent underclass so they wouldn't have to farm and could be full time soldiers we such huge proponents of freedom.

Dunno she was in Kingdom of Heaven as well it was a period piece as well. Granted KoH wasn't as tasteless as the first 300.

Edit: Does anyone else hope the find some way to bring Michael Fassbender back for this one he was just great in the first one.

Even more hilarious... After that, Themistokles, one of those Athenian "philosophers and boy lovers" wiped the floor with the Persians at the battle of Salamis.

IRL the greeks put a bounty on a female Persian ship captain because they thought it was offensive that a puny woman was setting herself against men. That's the person that she's playing.

...what're the odds that in this she'll be a romantic interest for one of the athenians?

Even more hilarious again... Pederasty was practised more significantly in Sparta than in Athens. 'Boy lovers' would have probably been a compliment!
Oh, and all of the Persian states were probably more free than any greek state at the time. They generally banned slavery.

Heh, it might be her in the trailer if you follow closely. Unless it's another woman at 1.50, hard to tell

Can't go on youtube atm, but I see where this is going.

Her and Thermistocles will get together instead of trying to kill each other, then flee to Turkey together when Thermistocles gets banished. But the Spartans won't do the banishing as they did IRL, it'll be some corrupt Athenian villain.

^ This is me calling it, just wait and see!

I enjoyed the original 300 movie a lot. Classical History major and a comic book reader so things fell into place for me in this movie. Yes, I understand that the history in this movie is rather horrible but it was never based on history; it's based on a comic book based on a book about the Battle of Thermopylae that was very Greco-centric. It's a guilty pleasure (and I found some moments in the movie to have a rather interesting take on hoplite warfare...until it went all action-star on me).

This second movie looks like a simple action film. Not excited about it but will probably end up seeing it anyway. If anything it may get me to open up my Herodotus again for some real storytelling.

I think that if they went with a NIN song for the trailer they could have gotten me more excited. Possibly.
