Hrm... well if you'll pardon me for saying so, I believe this Saint Augustine fellow to be full of shite.

After all, let's look at how well "perfect abstinance" has worked for the pirests of the catholic church...

Completely repressing any given desire, habit or guilty pleasure will simply cause someone to fall off the wagon in a dramatic fashion further down the track.
I think the spirit of the quotation is still worth discussing, regardless of our feelings on the man who said it or the organization he represented. For a lot of people struggling with doing too much of something, it's easier on them if they avoid it entirely than if they try to cut down a bit.

If you know you've got shaky balance, you don't play near a cliff. That being the case, it'd be safer to go play somewhere entirely different than to see just how close to the cliff you can play without falling, wouldn't it? For some people, I think it's a yes.

Cheating is perfectly acceptable - as long as you don't use it to get an advantage in a competitive game like MW2 or something. Basically the rule of thumb is that you can't use cheating to have fun at the expense of others, that's just called being a dick.
Absolutely. There's a difference between cheating at a game (while potentially cheating yourself out of some experiences), and cheating other people. Unless it's a mutually-agreed-upon thing, I really don't think there's an excuse for multiplayer cheating. Of course, you can get into the trap of fighting over what is or isn't "cheating"...
