Remember that post about a week ago where I praised GameStop for quick service on replacing my RRoD 360? Well, the "new" one just died on me, giving me the RLoD (not the ring, just one light) and error E74. Tried all the do-it-yourself easy fixes, and none of them work, so I'm out of a 360. Again.

At least I got the warranty again. I'm going to see if I can trade it towards a new (not refurbished) system, because this is just ridiculous.
Ha! Im still on my first 360, and its a launch 360.

Your absolutley right, this IS ridiculous! I hope you dont color me a fanboy for posting this, but if you dont have too many 360 games your attatched to you might wanna consider a swwitch in consoles altogether (even though you could sell the games anyways). I wouldnt normally recommend something like that, but I mean the damn thing has died twice on you in 2 weeks...
Yeah but think about it, his 360 had died TWICE in tow weeks, what are the odds the next one will break? Slim to none.

Just like the odds of people's 360's breaking down six times? "Well, my 360 broke three times in as many weeks, but what are the chances of it breaking a fourth time?"

*breaks down*

"Well, my 360 broke down 4 times on me, but what are the chances of it breaking down again for a fifth time?"

*breaks down again*

Obviously this is the mentality of many 360 owners, the whole "It won't/can't happen to me" business. Believe it or not, Microsoft are selling you a defunct system, and the day you buy a damn 360 could be the day you need to send it in for repairs.

Like I said, if this happend with my PS3, Sony would lose a loyal customer. "Oh, my PS3 broke a fourth time, but what are the odds of it breaking again? Slim to none 'cause it already broke on me four times anyway!"

Yeah....no, I'd sell my PS3 on eBay (okay, maybe that's extreme...) for that kind of atrocity.

Every time I see a post like this it reminds me once again that I have been really lucky with my 360. Two years without any problems at all.

But again, it also reminds me why I feel the need to hold my breath every time I turn the darn thing on.

I do have a friend who's gone through three or four in that same time period though, it makes me wonder how some of us (even if it's a select few) can go years on the same system, yet so many others, possibly even the majority of 360 owners, are constantly boxing them up for repairs.

Happened to a few of my firends actually, which is why i dont nor will ever own one. If his wasn't crashing or being replaced refurbished whatever, then it was a network or some other communication problem. For a machine thats bascially a computer..seriously. Piece of garbage. Can't wait for a few more years when just about everyones warranty is up...

Thus why its we call it fail60, hopefully the fail rate on the newest revision is lower than half of the first...

Anyone here about how the new one with the smaller CPU/GPU are holding up?

The Sience behind the red ring of death:

Many people think that insufficient cooling is the cause of the rrod but it's NOT a cooling problem. The problem lies in the connections between the GPU heat sink an 360 motherboard. Instead of using screws to attach the heat sink, Microsoft came up with there own sollution.
The heat sinks are kept in place by a sort of x-klamp that is supposed to retain pressure between the gpu and cpu and their induvidual heat sinks. But the x-clamp has a tendancy to deform when exposed to high temperatures.
And then two things could happen.
1. It creates cracks om the motherboard effectivelly rendering it useless.
2. It releases its grip in the heat sink causeing the heat sink to loose its connection to the GPU wich in turn will overheat the GPU.

You can prevent this from happening by replaceing the x-clamp with screws an bricks but you would woid your warrenty in the process.

I hope some of you will find this information usfull.

Err... isn't one light just that the cables aren't properly plugged in?
Nope it's the new RROD, aka RLOD, it just happen to mine(Xbox Elite) a week after the 1 year warranty expired which is pretty convenient since it's also not covered under the 3 year warranty which is limited to the RROD error only. M$

They want to charge me 120$ to fix my box because of there faulty product. What a joke, 100% failure rate, all boxes will die at some point and not to long after M$ puts out there new cheap console that will die by using it.

EDIT: FF13 will be out for both systems at the same time btw
I know, I'm just referring to the people who bought a PS3 before the multi-platform announcement came across. My roommate last year is definitely one of those cases, and another friend ALMOST did it a month ago, and then I mentioned it was multi-plat, so now he's not sure which console to get.

I am wondering if this is from Fable 2. I got this error from Fable 2 after having a red tinted screen. I just sent it back for a free repair because of the warranty.

Chronic 360 problems aside.

Maybe the problem is Gamestop. Do the guys at your gamestop always have red irritated eyes and ask "what?" a lot? They may have been using your "refurbished" 360 as a bong or a hacky sack.
I've found one gamestop in NYC (Rockefeller Center) I can tolerate enough to run in there buy a new/sealed game and run out (because they don't harass you about trade ins, preorders, their magazine and everything else so there's never a line) but I would still never buy a system from them. Try biting the bullet and sending it back to MS. It sucks to have to wait (especially if your in the middle of a game) but it might be better in the long run; or will they not fix a used one from gamestop.

By the time I was shopping for a next gen system, the rrod thing was already pretty well publicized, and that's pretty much the main reason I don't have a 360. I would've been pissed if it happened while I was in the middle of something really addictive like Fallout 3. I'm not trying to flame, just saying what went through my mind while shopping.

Ouch that seemed like a kick straight to the balls. Sucks dude. For me when they do that like Jumplion said I'll throw it out and stop my business.

If this happened with the PS3 their customer service department would say it was something on OUR end that WE did to the system, void the warranty and tell us they would fix it for $200 plus shipping.

I don't dislike the system, I just hate Sony.

My first three 360s all died within a week of each other, so I feel your pain.

I hung around until #5 bit the dust with one year left on my warranty. Didn't replace it. Lesson freakin' learned.
